Success Stories

These are stories of some of our dogs in their new homes.  If you adopted a Chi or Chi mix from CRT and would like to be featured, please email the webmaster.

DALIA

Dalia was one of the Cleveland 6 dogs rescued by CRT. She came to our home as a foster dog recovering from a mammary tumor, removal of two bladder stones, the loss 14 teeth (two of them broken off at the root), and having two different kinds of hernias repaired. There were all kinds of adhesions and a hole through her abdominal wall, all results of giving birth to too many litters. She weighed almost 10 pounds which was far too heavy for her delicate frame and for her rear knees that are very bowed from bad patellas.

You would never know her knees are bad from the speed with which she races through the grass and the impish way she tries to convince the other dogs her to play with her. After fostering her for a year my husband and I decided that Dalia should stay with us so we adopted her.

This is the second older Chihuahua we have adopted and if you have always felt that you didn’t want an older dog think again. There is sweetness and appreciation for life these wise animals have that makes them an extremely special part of your family.

I have several dogs that I love very much but none fill me with appreciation watching them enjoy a sunbeam like Dalia. She seems to cherish those moments instead of taking them for granted since those moments were not part of her early life. Even with her ailments that require special foods or maneuvers on our part, the joy of spending time with her far outweigh those small inconveniences.

We recently traveled to warm Atlanta with our dogs (including Dalia) during the cold months and Dalia spent every afternoon sunning on the screened porch. When the other dogs were ready to come back in the house Dalia was still rolling in the warm, green grass.

An older dog may not be with you as long as a younger one but the special moments spent with an older, “wiser” dog are priceless. We are blessed to have Dalia join our family.

PATTI

Hello! My name is Patti and you might remember me as part of the Cleveland 6. I have some great, great news just in time for Spring. I went to be a foster at Tamale's home in February when my good friend Ms. Chris had to take on another dog friend. I was such a good girl and everyone loved me so much at my foster home, that I have been ADOPTED!!!!! I am very, very excited to be in my forever home where I have my good friends Toby and Molly with me.

We have a great time in our backyard--the only problem is that it is Michigan and they get alot of snow. Today, we had 10 inches and my mom had to clear a path for us to even get outside. This really interferes with my daily job of checking out all of the bird feeders. But, you know what they say in Michigan "If you don't like the weather, wait until tomorrow -- it will be different."

I would like to thank everyone at CRT who has fostered me along the way and made me the very sweet (and considerably thinner) girl that I am today. We won't say what I used to be called but it rhymes with Patti! It is also my Easter wish that every other dog at CRT find a forever home just like me! Thank you CRT for making my dreams come true.

LUCHA

Hello Everyone!

My name is Lucha, it's means 'to fight' in Latino. Some of you may remember me from the CRT adoption list where my story was told about my long life in a wooden box, my profession at the time was puppymill breeder having two litters a year, then at last I was rescued after 9 long yrs and placed into foster care where my life made a miraculous change for the better..

After two wonderful years in great foster homes I finally found my forever family who were on the verge of giving up any kind of hope of being able to adopt from other rescues due to the fact that they had a small child and a large older dog (whom I might add were both raised with teeny- weeny four legged pets) but CRT looked past that and by sheer luck and chance meeting fell in love with me at a Chicago Pet Industry show in March of 07.

My life now exists of happily greeting all customers daily at my forever mom's work, which I just love to do, and who owns a pet related business, which means plenty of cool pet stuff, great food, lots of attention, watching cartoons with my human brother, playing with Nina my Papillion sister, getting a massage every other Sat. from Kathy Drelicharz, my personal massage therapist, and snuggling under the bed covers with those that truly love me. My new profession?  Telling my story and helping to raise some funds for CRT to help my other Chi relatives.

My 12th birthday and 1yr forever home anniversary is coming up in March, 08, and I cannot wait for the surprise that may be in store for me.

The gratitude that the entire family feels for the work that CRT does is beyond words, and the love that we have for each other will go on until the end of time.

God bless Rick & Janice (Foster Parents and wonderful people-especially Rick) and Saundra for making this just a perfect ending to a not so perfect beginning.

TAMALE (Formerly Chachita)

Hello!

My name is Tamale but my new forever mom calls me Molly. I was adopted in December of 2007 by my new family in Michigan. I have a brother who is a Toy Fox Terrier named Toby. He is a pretty nice guy and we have our morning routine of clearing the yard of squirrels and birds. We have a great yard that is partially wooded and fenced in but we have our work cut out for us with those pesky squirrels!!!

We also have a new foster sister named Patti. Patti is fun and likes to eat a lot just like me!!!!! It was a race to the food bowls this morning. We are on diets.....just like real girls. This is a picture of me in my favorite place on the bed. Toby wanted his picture taken too, but I told him that this site was about me (TFT can be so bossy!!!!! He needs to get his own site!) I also have a new Chihuahua friend named Cinco de Mayo that lives at a nearby home.

My new vet made me get my teeth cleaned in January. I made it through the procedure, but I was not a very happy girl for a couple of days after that and hid under the bed. Of course, Toby couldn't mind his own business and.....well, that is another story.

I would like to thank my foster mom, Sarah and my transportation person Chris for taking such good care of me until I found my way to Michigan. I think it was meant to be because shortly after I arrived, my new mom's very old cocker spaniel died. I was here to help her out and make sure she had a new friend.

As much as we love Patti, she needs a forever home just as great as mine. She is on the site for the Midwest Region.

Thank you CRT for making my dreams of a forever home come true!

VIOLET

First off I want to apologize for not thanking CRT sooner. We adopted Violet on May 12th, 2007. Adopting her from CRT was a joy. Everyone was so nice and they really care about the Chihuahua's. Violet has been the sweetest addition to our family. We don't know how we ever lived without her. Violet moved in and stole all of our hearts right from the beginning. Even our other 3 chi's liked her right away and we have never had any issues.

Violet has an obsession with purses, obviously with one of her former owners she was carried around in a purse. She has a collection of purses and more outfits now and enjoys going to family functions in them. I discovered this because every time I would go to leave she would try to get in my purse no matter how big or small it was. She came with one but i did not take it serious on how much she loved them. She is a delight to be around and EVERYONE that meets her falls in love with her. Thanks CRT for saving Violet and taking good care of her till we could find her.

With much love, Michele, Shaun and Violet

I have attached some photo's of Violet at her new house. She loves her new backyard and protecting it with her buddy's.

SADY

I am so happy to share these pictures of Sady and tell you how glad we are to welcome her to our family. Sady brightens up the house and keeps us all entertained! Sady loves going for walks, playing with her toys and running around in her big back yard. I have to admit she has us wrapped around her finger....how could you blame us though? Just one glance at that loveable little dog will melt your heart.

Sady has a little buddy named Rickey (pictured above) and they are crazy about each other. We couldn't have been blessed with such a more amazing gift like her.

Thank you so much for the work that each and every one of you do and for the dedication, hard work, time and energy you put into each and every rescue. You are incredible human beings that will be richly blessed for opening up your lives and helping these helpless animals. May there be more people like you in this tough world.

God Bless,

Molly and Melissa

LOLITA

Pics: Senorita Lolita, in her favorite pink boa and dress. Lou, Senor Pepe and Senorita Lolita making themselves comfortable for a group snooze.

My roommate, Ryan, and I adopted Senorita Lolita about a month ago. She joined Senor Pepe, also a rescue, who came from another group. They both get along famously with our boxer, Lou.

Lolita is deaf, and Ryan is also - except he has the benefit of an implant that allows him to hear. We wish we could get one for Lolita - but she gets by quite well in spite of her handicap. In fact, she's running the household.

She loves to chase the 68-pound boxer around and play with him, hide with her treats and snuggle up on the heating pad that she sometimes will share with Senor Pepe. She is quite the Diva, and seems to love wearing clothes. When she gets dressed up she prisses all over with attittude.

We appreciate the group's work in saving the babies, and especially thank Cheryl for giving Lita such a loving foster home.

BELLA

My son and I adopted Bella in July 2007, and our lives haven't been the same since!  After searching online for the perfect pet for us and our small family, we were so excited to see Bella show up right at the last minute!  We were about to adopt another dog that seemed to fit all of our requirements except one.  And then there was Bella!  When we stopped by to meet her at the foster family's house, she was the smallest dog there but she definitely got the most attention!  She jumped around and was all over my son as soon as she saw him!  He told me right away that Bella was the dog for him!

We were so happy that Bella had the opportunity to live with another family while she waited for us to find her.  She was already house trained and crate trained!  My son started playing football shortly after the adoption, and Bella came along to every practice with us.  The siblings of the other players were always anxious to see Bella!  She had her own fan club!  But everyone loved playing with her and rubbing her belly (since that is what she seems to live for)!

Bella is so happy with us, and we are so happy to have her with us!  Every morning, she helps me wake up my son with some wet kisses!  And he has never had a grumpy morning since he's been getting his wake up calls from his new best friend!  And we both have someone that is always happy to see us when we walk in the door... even if we just stepped out to check the mail!  You can't find love like that anywhere else!!!

Thanks for bringing us together with our soul-pet!

BIANCA

Hi!  My name is Bianca and I came to my forever home almost 18 months ago.  When I first moved in with my new Mom and “big brother” Brutus, I was quiet and shy.  I even used to hide under the bed when it was time for a walk.  Now I’m super-talkative and energetic!  I make lots of different noises when it’s dinner time, or when I want to play.  I also like to get attention by bonking people with my nose – I do it so much my nickname is “Bonkers.”

My new family and I just moved from Texas to Pennsylvania, but I didn’t mind the move at all because I had Mom and Brutus with me.  I wasn’t too sure about Brutus at first, but now I think he’s the coolest Chihuahua ever and he takes good care of me.  He licks my whole face every single night, and he makes sure no other dogs pick on me.  He doesn’t like to share the toys much but I still play with them when he’s not looking.  Hee hee…

I love to play with Brutus and run around in my new backyard (I have to wear a coat up here in the Pennsylvania winters but Mom says I look very stylish!).   But my favorite thing to do is just to snuggle up with Mom, and Mom says that’s just fine by her.

I just wanted to thank everyone at CRT for taking such good care of me so I could come live with my new Mom and Brutus.  We are all so happy here!

Bianca (and Brutus and Jen Dearden)

HANNAH

Hi Friends,

I adopted “Hannah” eight months ago from CRT and she is an amazing, brave little senior girl.  I am so in love with her and am so lucky to have her in my life.  I just wish hers had been better in the beginning.  She was in a shelter in Dallas after being surrendered inside a birdcage by her callous owners who didn’t want her anymore because she was “too old”.  Thankfully CRT rescued her and placed her in a great foster home, which is where she was when I adopted her.  She had a painful, badly infected eye and awful teeth from obvious years of neglect.  Even though I was afraid she was too fragile for surgery, she proved to be an amazing little fighter and went through eye removal surgery and dental surgery with flying colors.  She feels great now and is a new dog!  She runs around the house as fast as her little arthritic knees will take her, and she loves to bark at us at dinnertime, her little front paws jumping clear off the ground with every “ark!”  Her favorite activity is napping, and she has a big cushy snuggle bed that she tucks herself into whenever the notion hits her.

I cannot express enough the joy of caring for a geriatric dog.  Hannah wants nothing more than to love and to be loved.  It makes me feel good to know she will now live out her “golden years” in comfort.

Go seniors!

CHLOE

Hello,

I'd like to write to you and tell you of our new gal Chloe.  Chloe came to live with us in May.  Genny and Bryan brought this scared little doggie to our home.  She wasn't so scared of them but we were the problem.  We had little Belle who was the queen of the house and knew that it was time she had a sister.  It took Chloe a few weeks to figure out we weren't going to hurt her but just to let you know....she's fitting right in and we all love her so much.

Thanks CRT!

Sherry

BOBO (North Carolina)

This is Bobo--our little man! We love him so much. We got him in April of 2007 and he has already made himself at home! We love him more and more everyday. We already have a 3-year-old Chihuahua named Sadie and they are becoming best friends. Sadie still has "big sister" issues, but she loves to play with him. He loves to be on Mommy and Daddy's bed!! He rolls in the covers and brings ALL of his toys on the bed! He is such a joy to have and we are so happy that we have him. He turns 1 on June 16 and he is going to have a birthday party and get lots of presents!!

Thanks so much for our wonderful, sweet Bobo!

ROCKY

Hi my name is Rocky.

When my mom and daddy adopted me they wanted to change my name, until they saw that I really am a "ROCKY". The underdog (pardon the pun) that wins. You see, I'm deaf and the people I was first with didn't know that. Mommy says they must have been stupid. They decided that they didn't have time for me when they found out. The good thing is that they had enough heart to know I would need special time and they didn't have it to give.

Anyway, I'm very happy with my new, silly family. Mom, (I don't really call her that, she is just "the lady I follow around the house all the time",  because daddy doesn't know how to sign mom) thinks that I am the smartest boy. She has taught me all kinds of signs. She really wanted me to know when she and daddy were talking to me, and not the other kids. I now know my name in sign language; "RO."  Boy, do I get excited when mom and daddy sign my name and then "yay;"  my tail starts to wag and I know good stuff is going to happen!

Oh, by the way, my mom is the most goofy lady. She had to include pictures of the other kids as well. No one in this family gets left out. Let me introduce you to them.

The fluffy thing in the window is Gracie, she has been here since she was a baby. Mom says she is now 7 yrs old and was adopted from a crazy lady who put her on a bunk bed and she fell off, breaking her leg. She was only 5 weeks old. The crazy lady was going to have Gracie's leg cut off because she didn't want to spend the money having it put in a cast. Mommy said that was stupid and took her home with her. Gracie had a new cast every week, because she was a growing girl.  Mom says that God sent her to us (the Tokpa Family) because Gracie's limp is like mommy and both of their hips look the same on an ex-ray. God gave mom a little girl that is just like her, limpy and gimpy, very smart and very very funny (mom made me say that part).

The next is Rosie; she is the one in black and white picture. She is around 12-13 yrs old and very bossy. Rosie came from chi-rescue and you couldn't pay her to leave mom's side. It took almost a whole year before she would let daddy pick her up and play with her but I tell ya, now she thinks he is her daddy only. Rosie hardly lets me stand on daddy at all without having a barking cow.

Aster is the goofy boy next to the fence. Once again he's from chi-rescue. What mommy thinks is so funny about him, besides his goofy overbite/face, is that I'm 2 months older than he is but he weighs 14 pounds and I only weigh 5-6 pounds. He is another barker that thinks that daddy is all his. Don't worry though, daddy makes sure to spend time with me. I have even learned the game of "where's daddy". Mom knew I was smart and I learned the signs for "where" and "daddy" and then I look for him but that isn't the best part or the funniest. The funniest is that daddy is learning sign language. At first he was all thumbs and now he can spell my name and tell me how smart I am. Boy, do I love that! When daddy tells me "yay!" he always has a toy hidden to play with me and I know he is going to give me tummy blurps.

Here in my new home I am NEVER bored and that makes me happy. I can always find someone to play with, even the old lady Rosie plays with me.

Sorry I know this is getting long but mom had a few more things she wants me to mention.

1.Mom and daddy love us all sooo much that every minute they are home, which is a lot, all they do is watch us and coo over how all 4 of us play and wrestle together. They say we are "free entertainmen."  I agree, much better than T.V., we are.

There are also 2 cats here but they are not as much fun even though I play with them too. Still, not the same as us special, smart, funny children. They're just cats'.. not so smart.

2. Mommy included 3 extra pictures of me being woken up by her. She thought they were too cute and I guess daddy agreed so there they are too(I'm the little all-white guy).

Thank you CRT!

You have made my mommy and daddy very happy. They say now they have their very own family and it is the perfect "Topka Family."

P.S. just in case you haven't noticed, my mom thinks a lot of herself; please forgive that, like I said she is silly.

Smart pants,

Rocky

PEDRO
I just want to tell everyone how happy I am. A few months ago, these ladies from Asheville, NC saw my picture on the CRT website. Of course they fell in love with me, but they had too many other dogs for my taste. I really wanted to live at a retirement villa. So their mom, Beverly, took one look at my picture, and she too fell in love with me.  Doug (my foster Daddy) and I went to visit Beverly. Guess what! I got to stay!

Now let me tell you that these ladies are suckers for us doggies. They even threw me a doggie party at a local restaurant. Boy was that fun!  We all wore our new clothes, and we even got to eat some cheese. I made many new friends too, like Pepe', Bella, and Fetish the Chihuahuas; Yoda the Pug; and Vegas the Poodle. Even though I can't really run and play the way they do, they are very understanding and love me anyway.

Believe me when I say I have found the perfect home with Beverly.
Sometimes she has a hard time and I help her out. But mainly she takes special care of me. You see, I have arthritis, and it hurts to walk too much. So every day she walks me in a special stroller. I also get rides in her car, and she gives me kisses whenever I want them. She loves me so much, and I couldn't have asked for a better human to live with. I hope that this letter gets posted, because I want to tell Beverly that I love her so much, and she has made me the happiest Chihuahua in the world.

Pedro
