Mike Maddux a double donor for Sasha, Squeak,
and Cha Cha!
This itty bitty boy
was turned over to rescue, along with his mate and
four of his offspring, by his breeder guardians when
they moved. Cha Cha is thought to be around 5 years
old. He weighs only 3-1/2 pounds.
Cha Cha's health had been severely neglected before he
came to CRT. His teeth and mouth were in horrible
shape. During his dental he lost all but 3 of
his teeth and the vet discovered that his lower jaw
had fractured, probably as a result of weakening of
the bone from dental disease. There is nothing
that can be done at this point to remedy the
situation. The vet hopes now that the decay has
been removed from his mouth and he has had a course of
antibiotics, the fracture may begin to mend on it's
own. The vet also discovered that Cha Cha has a
"fairly significant" heart murmur and x-rays revealed
that his heart is slightly enlarged. This is
possibly the result of a mitral valve infection caused
by bacteria from his mouth. Cha Cha is
asymptomatic at the present time and does not require
medication, but the situation will need to be
monitored periodically.
Cha Cha is heartworm negative, on preventative, is
neutered and has had all his shots.
Because he no longer has teeth to chew with and the
possibility of further damage to his weakened jaw, Cha
Cha will need a diet of soft food.
Cha Cha is a quiet little dog. He prefers to
spend his days nestled in a pile of blankets in a
chair, snuggled up with Winky, one of his offspring.
Cha Cha does not interact with the other dogs in his
foster home except for Winky, and does not seem to
know what toys are. He is not a cuddly dog, but
does like to be around people and sleeps under the
covers with his foster mother at night.
Cha Cha is partially housebroken, but does use paper
sometimes. He no longer marks territory in the
house, but may do so temporarily in new surroundings.
Because of his small size and potentially frail
health, Cha Cha will not be placed in a home with
children. There should be at least one other
small, not terribly active dog for him to cuddle with.
Cha Cha is sometimes rude to the cats..
