We knew right away that he wasn't really a Chihuahua.
When CRT was
contacted by the animal control officer from the newly formed animal
control in a small town, a volunteer drove out to take a look. Because
of the dreadful conditions he was forced to live in, the volunteer
sprung him anyway.
Elmer may never have lived indoors before he came to CRT. He was
short on house manners and afraid of many things. It was obvious
that wherever he came from, he had not always been well treated. He
still has some minor quirks and is slow to trust, but has come such a
long way and is a sweet, affectionate little guy. We can watch him
blossom a little more every week.
Elmer is just a young fella, around 2 yrs . old, and is about 10
pounds. He is active and playful and still has many puppy behaviors.
He would do best in a home with a yard to romp in and another dog to
play with. Elmer is a chow hound, wanting not only his portion, but
any other dog's lunch that he is able to steal, so he is fed
separately in the kitchen. Elmer is a toy collector. He gathers them
all up and puts them in one spot to save for a rainy day, I guess, but
he does not object if another dog carries them off again.
Elmer is good with other dogs and doesn't bother the cats much. He
romps with Gucci and the puppies in his foster home. He has been
exposed to a young child and didn't seem to care one way or other;
but, because of his history it would be best that he not be placed
with very young children.
