NAME: Spike
GENDER: Male
AGE: 2 yrs.
DOGS/CATS: Yes, he gets along well with everyone.
CHILDREN: Over age 12
OTHER: Spike is deaf.
Spike was rescued from an area shelter by a CRT volunteer. He
went straight to the vet for shots and a HW test, which was
positive. He has finished his HW treatments and is HW
negative.
Soon after Spike came to his foster home, it was discovered
that he was deaf. He hears some sounds due
to their high pitch or vibration, but he does not always know
where the sound is coming from; he has learned to watch the
other dogs and his foster parents for cues as to what is going
on-he doesn't miss much unless he is sound asleep.
Spike is sweet, 2 yrs. old, about 7 lbs., and very
active. He loves his people and loves to snuggle, but can get
a bit crabby when he is overstimulated; for this reason, Spike
would not be a good dog for children under 12. He will need
an active home with a strong dog obedience background as he
can be quite stubborn. Spike would be a great 'agility' dog
as he is a very wiry, muscular little guy; he can climb most
anything, and, because he is deaf, a very secure privacy fence
is a must.

Spike gets along well with the other dogs (and cats) in his
foster home; he would play til he drops. Spike is a clown
who
LOVES toys; he shares better with the
girl dogs in the home than the males. Spike is working on the
housebreaking, but tends to mark if there are other male dogs
in the home. Spike is cratetrained; he sometimes will go to
his crate just to chill out if nothing is going on.
If you are looking for an energetic, loving guy who loves long
walks, and are up to the challenge of dealing with a deaf dog
(for more info on living with a deaf dog, see
www.deafdogs.org), then
Spike is your man; he is so worth the extra effort to
acclimate him to your family.
Spike is neutered, microchipped, HW negative, and on HW
preventative.
