Put A Little Love In Your Life - Adopt A Chihuahua

We currently have one dog available for adoption in this region.  While there is no shortage of dogs needing rescue, there is a severe shortage of foster homes.

If you are interested in finding out more information about volunteering as a foster parent, please check the CRT Volunteer Information link HERE

CALIFORNIA and NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
The coordinator can be reached at
CRTCHI@aol.com

Below you will find the current list of Chihuahuas who are in need of a loving home. If you are interested in learning more about a specific Chihuahua, please e-mail the contact. They will get back to you with information as quickly as possible.

If you are looking for a dog that is unaltered, please do not ask.  ALL dogs are spayed/neutered without any exceptions.

If you are interested in adopting, but the Chihuahuas currently listed are not in your area, feel free to complete an
adoption application.  You can also read about how our adoption process works.  Please also read up about the Chihuahua breed to be sure this is the right fit for you and your household.

CRT requests an adoption fee of at least $200.00 in the state of California.  In the event that you are adopting a puppy from us, which is very rare, the adoption fee will increase.

All of our dogs are altered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and fecal tested prior to adoption.  Again, please read about our adoption process.

CRT Best Friends Program

Won't you be my best friend?  Hi! We are Chihuahuas who need a forever home.  Right now we live with a foster mom who takes very good care of us.  We know that you would love to adopt us but can't do it right now.  If you'd like to help take care of us you can become our "Best Friend."  You can make a weekly donation of $5 or more, a monthly donation of $20 or more, or a one time donation of any amount.  Even if you are planning to adopt one of us, there are so many more still waiting for that perfect home.  When you become our Best Friend your name will appear next to our photo and we will be so grateful.  Please, help us get home.

If you would like to have a Best Friend, please email
Sponsor@chihuahua-rescue.com.

Petey is a 10-year old chihuahua who was turned over to CRT by his owner because she was moving. He only weighed 3-1/2 pounds when he came into rescue. He was very thin. He had a multitude of problems, all of them stemming from neglect. His owner had never taken him to the vet in the 5 or 6 years she owned him. When he went to his foster mom’s, he had sores on his tail and an ear infection. He cried all the time and had stomach problems. He has now had all his shots. He is eating well and has gained almost a pound. However, Petey makes strange breathing noises, which are always worse after he eats. Petey went to a new vet last week who discovered why. First, he does have a few teeth left that the vet thinks may be able to be saved. The reason for the breathing noises and congestion is that Petey has holes in his jaw bones, and they are going up into his sinuses. When he eats, the food is being inhaled into his sinus cavity. Petey will need expensive surgery to remedy this problem. In addition, he has bloody stools, which the vet thinks may be due to all the stress Petey has been under the past month. He may also have cataracts. Petey’s foster mom says he is a good, sweet boy with a lot of life left in him. He has come a long way in the past month, but he still has a long way to go.
UPDATE 8/9/05:   All of Petey's oral surgeries have been taken care of.  He occasionally has an acupuncture treatment for the degenerative disc in his back.  He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in mid-May.  He is on medications now and acts like a young puppy ... full of energy!

Petey is not available for adoption at this time. If you are interested in contributing to his veterinary care, please contact Sponsor@chihuahua-rescue.com
