Put A Little Love In Your Life - Adopt A Chihuahua

THE CAROLINAS
The coordinator for
NC and SC is

wildlifeed2@aol.com

Below you will find the current list of Chihuahuas who are in need of a loving home. If you are interested in learning more about a specific Chihuahua, please e-mail the contact. They will get back to you with information as quickly as possible.

If you are looking for a dog that is unaltered, please do not ask.  ALL dogs are spayed/neutered without any exceptions.

If you are interested in adopting, but the Chihuahuas currently listed are not in your area, feel free to complete an adoption application.  You can also read about how our adoption process works.  Please also read up about the Chihuahua breed to be sure this is the right fit for you and your household.

***CRT requests an adoption fee of at least $200.00.  In the event that you are adopting a puppy from us, which is very rare, the adoption fee will increase.  All of our dogs are altered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and fecal tested prior to adoption.  Again, please read about our adoption process.

CRT Best Friends Program

Won't you be my best friend?  Hi! We are Chihuahuas who need a forever home.  Right now we live with a foster mom who takes very good care of us.  We know that you would love to adopt us but can't do it right now.  If you'd like to help take care of us you can become our "Best Friend."  You can make a weekly donation of $5 or more, a monthly donation of $20 or more, or a one time donation of any amount.  Even if you are planning to adopt one of us, there are so many more still waiting for that perfect home.  When you become our Best Friend your name will appear next to our photo and we will be so grateful.  Please, help us get home.

If you would like to have a Best Friend, please email Sponsor@chihuahua-rescue.com.

GRETA

Hi! I'm Rita and I was rescued with my brother, Mojo, from a Wayne County puppy mill when I was 6 weeks old. I was born 1/08/09 so I am currently 6.5 months old.

I am a very quiet puppy and love to cuddle! Even though I would prefer to sleep in the bed, I go into my crate every night and sleep quietly through the night. I am a typical puppy that loves to run and play and chew on my toys.

My foster mom says that I am very close to being housebroken, but that I need to learn how to communicate when I need to go to the bathroom. I get along with children, other dogs, and cats. I am spayed and up to date on all of my shots.

Please contact my foster mom at bethapnc@yahoo.com if you are interested in more information on me. Thanks

RITA is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

MOJO

Hi! I'm Mojo which is short for Mojito. I was rescued with my sister, Rita, from a Wayne County puppy mill when I was 6 weeks old. I was born 1/08/09 so I am currently 6.5 months old.

I am a very sweet and playful Cheweenie (Chihuahua/Doxie mix). I get along with children, other dogs and cats. I am a typical puppy that loves to run and play and chew on my toys. My foster mom says that I am very close to being paper trained. I am neutered, microchipped and UTD on all of my shots.

If you think you might be interested in me, please fill out an application and submit it. My foster mom will get in touch with you after that. Thanks!

Please contact wildlifeed2@aol.com  if you are interested in more information on this sweet little guy!

I am very active so I would love to be with someone who has lots of time to play with me and take me for walks so I can use up some of my energy. I will be UTD on my shots and neutered by the time that I am adopted. I am a typical puppy who loves to run and play and chew on my toys.

If you are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application and my foster mom will contact you. Thanks! Please visit our website below to fill out an application for adoption. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC438.html

GRETA

Hello! I’m Greta and I was taken in by Chihuahua Rescue and Transport after the Goldsboro Puppy Mill bust. Before the bust, I spent my entire life in a crate producing puppies which were always taken away from me.

My veterinarian thinks that I am around 4 yrs old and I weigh 7 lbs. I was extremely skittish when I first came into rescue, but my current foster mom has been working on this and I'm beginning to trust people and come out of my shell a little bit more. I hope to find a family that will be patient with me and give me lots of love and encouragement. I love to sleep in my foster mom’s bed, play with the other dogs and chase my toys! I would be ok with older or very gentle children and require a fence, since I’m still terrified of a leash. I’m UTD on shots, spayed and crate-trained!

I am UTD on shots, neutered and HW negative. If you would like to adopt me, please fill out an application and submit it and someone will get back to you. Won't you please adopt me and give me a forever home?

My adoption fee is $200. A home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. Please fill out an application before paging her. Please go to our main website listed below and fill out an application to adopt me. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC438.html

DOUGIE

Hello! I’m Dougie and I’m a 5-month old Chihuahua mix. I was given up by my previous family because they were too busy to socialize or potty-train me so I spent the majority of my time locked up. Luckily, I found Chihuahua Rescue and Transport and now I am looking for a new family that will be patient with me and give me lots of love and encouragement. My foster mom is working really hard with me, and I am really getting the hang of this potty training thing and getting to trust people more. I love to sleep in my foster mom’s bed, play with the other rescue dogs and I love to play with my 7 yr old boy! I’m UTD on shots, neutered and crate-trained (even though I don’t like it)! Won't you please adopt me and give me a forever home?

My adoption fee is $300. We do not adopt to familes with children under the age of 6 years and a home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. Please fill out an application, and if you have any questions please email my foster mom wildlifeed2@aol.com!

LOLA

Hi there! My name is Lola, and I am a very sweet and loving Chihuahua. I am very calm, but I love being anywhere you are. I walk well on a leash, and off a leash will stay glued to your side. I am 8 years old and I have been well taken care of by my previous owners. The good news is the available life span of a Chihuahua is 18 years so that is great news for me.

I am UTD on shots, spayed and housetrained. I love cuddling with you on the couch and will either sleep on my big dog bed or on the bed with you. I am great with other dogs, walk well on a leash and I ride exceptionally well in the car. Won't you please adopt me and give me a forever home?

My adoption fee is $200. We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6 and a home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. Please fill out an application and if you have any questions please email my foster mom wildlifeed2@aol.com.

3 PUPPIES

3 Puppies ~ 2 Male and 1 Female Born 2/18/09

We have puppies and are taking applications for them at this time. They will not be released to their new homes until after they have been spayed/neutered which is usually around 5-6 months depending on the size of the dog.

These pups were born to an 8-month-old Chi and are mixed with some kind of terrier. The little girl reminds you of a Cairn Terrier. Their mom has already been adopted and was black and tan in color and very small. I do not think that these pups will get very big.

The adoption fee is for each puppy is $300, this includes all of their shots and getting spayed and neutered. We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6 and a home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. Please fill out an application and if you have any questions please email my foster mom wildlifeed2@aol.com.

Mother Ellie Mae and 2 Puppies
2 Males born 3/27/09

"Mom"
(She has been adopted)

Boy 1

Boy 2

Born 3/27/09

Our mother, Ellie Mae, was dumped at a shelter in northwestern GA by her previous owner after she "went out and got pregnant." We were born the next day at the shelter.  We all were able to catch a ride to Charlotte where one of CRT's volunteers picked us up and drove us to Statesville so our current foster mom could pick us up. Our mom and sister have already been spoken for so now we are looking for our forever homes.

Our mom's previous owner told the shelter that she thought that our mom had bred with a "shaggy white dog down the street." One of us has medium terrier like hair and the other one of us has long curly hair.  We are typical puppies, will be UTD on our shots and will be neutered before going to our new homes.

The adoption fee is for each of us is $300, and includes all of our shots and getting neutered. CRT does not adopt to families with children under the age of 6 and a home visit will be required so we can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. Please fill out an application and if you have any questions please email our foster mom wildlifeed2@aol.com.

PEANUT AND SMOOCHIE

Hi, I'm Smoochy, a happy five-year, old long-haired girl. I am healthy, UTD on shots and spayed. I am a lap girl, I want all your attention and when I don't get it I will flop down in front of you for a belly rub. I am special friends with Peanut and would love to stay with him. Both of us ride very well in the car together. We do like to bark at strangers and strange noises, so we would be GREAT home protectors. I like to have my hair brushed and I'm not a chewer. Because I am so small I would do better with older children (over 5 years of age). Won't you give me and Peanut a forever home?

Peanut here! I am 5 years old, UTD on shots and neutered. I like to sit in your lap and love body massages, My teeth weren't too good, and after my dental I need food that is soft so that I can chew it. I am very quiet and just like to be cuddled unless I hear a strange noise or see a strange person, then I jump to let them know that I am a voracious barker and will not let them bother my foster mom. I would really like to stay with Smoochy even though she is such a DIVA!

I won't do well with small children (ages 5 and under). I have a tender spot and need to be picked up very carefully and I am so small everyone wants to hold me, which is okay with me. Don't you want to give me and Smoochy a forever home?

Our adopting fee is $400 for the both of us adorable little Chihuahua's. We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6 years and a home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. Please fill out an application, and if you have any questions please email my foster mom wildlifeed2@aol.com.

BLAZE

Hello! My name is Blaze and I am a long-haired Chihuahua who is 10 years old. My brother (he’s the one behind me in the picture) and I used to live with our owner in Virginia, but he came down with cancer and needed to go into Hospice, so we ended up with Chihuahua Rescue and Transport and currently live in North Carolina. Our owner refused to go into Hospice until a reputable Chihuahua group agreed to take us in and to try and find us a home together, since we’ve never been apart.

Our current foster mom says that we are just the sweetest little old men that she has ever met. We love to be with people and are totally house-trained. We love to investigate our current foster mom’s big back yard and sometimes we even play with some of the other foster dogs. When our foster mom gets in older female Chihuahuas she sometimes put them in with us, especially if they are really scared and we help them adjust to their new surrounding. It makes us feel good to be able to do this and it sure makes us feel younger than 10 years old!!!

I am UTD on shots, neutered and HW negative. My brother and I must be adopted together. If you would like to adopt us, please fill out an application and submit it and someone will get back to you. Thanks!

Won't you please adopt me and give me a forever home? My adoption fee is $200. A home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. BURT

Hello! My name is Burt and I originally came in with Bonnie and Clyde (two older Chi’s). My people rescued me and the older two from a shelter but then got orders out of the country so we had to find another place to live.

I currently live in North Carolina, and I am a very loveable little guy but can be quite shy when I first meet you. Once I get to know you, I love to be petted and loved on. My foster mom says that I love to eat and so she has to separate me from Bonnie and Clyde when she feeds them their special wet food (they are so old that they don’t have any teeth) because I love to dive in and eat it first.

I enjoy running around with the younger foster dogs, who can still play, in my foster mom’s big fenced in back yard but at night, I enjoy curling up with Bonnie and Clyde under the covers. I am UTD on shots, neutered and HW negative.

CALLIE
My best friend is Talia Signorelli. Talia is one of our regular donors!!

My name is Callie, and I have had mange since being found as a puppy behind a garbage can. The lady that found me tried to help me but couldn't afford the costly treatments. I am six years old and my skin was very raw and painful, when I was finally turned over to Chihuahua Rescue and Transport. I am currently on Ivermectin treatments and my current foster mom gives me warm medicated baths that help my skin heal. My hair is growing back now, and I feel a whole lot better.

My foster mom says that my entire personality has changed, since my skin has begun to heal. I am a very playful and happy dog now and I just love everyone. I currently reside in North Carolina and I sure hope that my skin continues to improve. I am UTD on shots, spayed and HW negative.

CHIEF

Hello, my name is Chief I am about 5 or 6 years old. I was turned over to the shelter. I’m still not sure why….I thought that I was a very good boy, and I just loved my family to death, but one day they took me for a ride and dropped me off. I was thinking that maybe I was just going to stay for a few days because they were going on vacation but the days turned into a week and then a volunteer from Chihuahua Rescue and Transport came and picked me up, which really confused me. The volunteer took me to the vet and they turned off the lights and used this really cool light to look at my skin. My foster mom now puts this ointment on several places on my skin twice a day, and I think I heard her call it something like “ringworm.” Gosh, I hope I don’t have worms!

Anyway, I now live in North Carolina and I love to run around my foster mom’s big fenced in back yard with the other foster dogs. My foster mom says that I am a really good boy and that I love attention. I am UTD on shots, neutered and HW negative. If you would like to adopt me, please fill out an application and submit it and someone will get back to you. Thanks! Won't you please adopt me and give me a forever home? My adoption fee is $200. A home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. Please fill out an application before paging her. GADGET

Hi there! My name is Gadget I am about 5-6 yeas old, and I currently live in North Carolina. I was turned into Animal Control after I was found wandering around a public park. After weeks of searching for my owners, my current foster mom made me part of the Chihuahua Rescue and Transport gang.

I love to be petted and love to sit in your lap. I will chase a ball and bring it back to you and place it in your lap for you to throw over and over for me. I know how to sit, and my foster mom says that I walk very well on a leash. I love to run around my foster mom’s big fenced in back yard and play with the other foster dogs. My foster mom cannot believe that someone would just abandon me because I am so good. I prefer woman and am scared of men.

HERCULES

Hi! I'm Hercules and I am 6 years old. I am a bit nippy and need an alpha person that is willing to be patient with me. Once I figure out the pecking order, I'm very sweet. I am not a morning person and enjoy sleeping in. I am totally house-trained, get along with other dogs and I definitely do not do children. I have had a rough past and was never socialized, but I am learning that I don't need to nip at the heels of everyone that enters my foster mom's house. I am currently on a diet because my foster mom thinks that I am overweight and I currently live in North Carolina.

I am UTD on shots, neutered and HW negative.

PRECIOUS

Hi! My name is Precious and I was found as a stray in the Chapel Hill area in January. I am about 8 years old and UTD on shots, HW negative and I am spayed. My foster mom says that I am very talented because I stand on my hind legs and wave to people (once I have gotten to know them).

I was used as a breeder dog most of my life and as a result of this, I've never ever been socialized or housetrained so we are working on that while I'm waiting for my new home. I don’t like to go outside (in my huge fenced yard) by myself to use the bathroom, so I make my mommy go out with me every time. I am still afraid of other dogs, so I just stay clear of them. Since I was never socialized throughout my life, I am very timid and afraid of new people. If someone stands over me or reaches for me and I don’t know them, I get terrified. That’s why I need a lot of time to adjust to new people at a new home.

I do better around females than males. I need someone very patient that will let me come to them when I am ready and comfortable, which won't take long because I LOVE to cuddle and lay in your lap. I also don’t mind at all sleeping on the bed with you. I prefer a home with patient responsible owners that will always be prepared to have me completely vetted each year and not give up on me for any reason like people in my past. If you think that you would like to give me a forever home, please fill out the application and someone will get back to you.

My adoption fee is $200. A home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. Please fill out an application before paging her.

VENUS

Hello! I’m known as Venus and I’m a very beautiful long-haired Chihuahua. I was dropped off at a local shelter, where I was scared to death and thought that I had to bite everyone who tried to touch me. Luckily, one of the shelter workers saw my potential and starting working with me and then contacted Chihuahua Rescue and Transport so that I could get even more help. My foster mom is working really hard with me, and I am starting to see that people are a good thing. I’m still a little apprehensive when I first meet new people, but I don’t think that I have to run up and bite them just because they are new to me.

I love to sleep in my foster mom’s bedroom right beside the bed, and I love to go outside and explore her big fenced in back yard. Sometimes when she calls me to come in, I stay way out in the woods and pretend that I don’t hear her, until she comes looking for me and then I run like crazy to the back door and act like I’ve been there the whole time.

I was recently diagnosed with a heart murmur that makes me cough but my foster mom gives me medicine which helps with the coughing. I am UTD on shots, spayed and HW negative.

PICO

©© My best friend is Talia Signorelli

Pico is a little 3 year old long-coat male with diabetes. He's not on the CRT web site yet since he was just rescued earlier this month. His owner didn't want to deal with giving him insulin, so he was dumped at the pound and was close to death when rescued by our NC coordinator. He spent several days at the emergency vet clinic, which wound up costing around $2,000. He's doing much better now, but they're still working on determining the correct dosage of insulin and getting him totally stabilized. He's also having some behavioral problems, which his foster mom thinks is either a result of abuse or from his system being whacked out from going so long without insulin. He's safe now and getting the medical treatment he needs, and since he's so young and cute, we expect he'll be adopted even with the diabetes; it'll just take a little longer to find the right forever home for him.

Thanks!

In the meantime, a big thanks to his Best Friends!

RENA AND REGGIE
Hello! Our names are Rena and Reggie and we were dumped at a shelter, after our owners didn't want us anymore. Our foster mom says that she cannot understand why we were dumped, because we are such great dogs. We are spayed and neutered, UTD on shots, had dentals and are house and crate trained. When we are told to go into our crates, we will run in the crate and cover up with one of the many blankets that our foster mom has for us. We love being together and are very bonded so we must be adopted together. Our adoption fee is only $200 for both of us together. Won't you give us a forever home?

ROSA

Hello! My name is Rosa and I am 6 years old, spayed and UTD on my shots. I am very quiet and I love to snuggle. I am housetrained and crate trained and I need to be in a home where there are no children. I was dumped at a shelter and because I was scared and stayed in the back of my cage, CRT was asked to take me in. I'm so glad that they did! Won't you give me a chance to show you what a wonderful part of your family I can be?

My adoption fee is $200.00. Please put my name somewhere on the application. A home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. If you have questions about me, you can page my foster mom at 336-733-7885, but please fill out an application before paging her. I can only be adopted to persons over the age of 18 years.

DANNY

Hi, I'm Danny and I am around 4-5 years of age and neutered. I am UTD on my shots and am house and crate trained. I love to play with other dogs and I'm very friendly, once I get to know you. I can be a little snippy around people that I do not know but if you tell me "no," I will behave. I am good with children over 10 years of age and I love to be held. I was dumped at the shelter where it was very scary, and I'm looking for a family that will be patient with me and give me the love that I deserve. Are you that family?

My adoption fee is $200.00. Please put my name somewhere on the application. A home visit will be required so I can only be adopted in NC/SC and possibly VA. If you have questions about me, you can page my foster mom at 336-733-7885, but please fill out an application before paging her. I can only be adopted to persons over the age of 18 years.

PETEY
Pet Photo
Hello! My name is Petey and I was found wandering around Jacksonville, NC. I am an older dog (10+) and have scars on my body from either being hit by a car or attacked by a dog. I am very sweet and will stand up and paw the air, when I want to go out or want your attention. I will also whine at you when I want to be with you. I am very playful and just want to be by your side. I love to sleep at the foot of the bed under the covers. I am housetrained, will whin or beg when I need to go ourside and will walk nicely on a leash. I love to go for car rides and will curl up and go to sleep, if the ride is very long. I had to have a lot of my teeth pulled due to gum disease and teeth rot, am spayed, UTD on my shots and HW negative. Can you give me a chance to show you how much I can love you?

Hey, my name is Wiggles because I’m always wagging my tail and wiggling all over the place. My brother and I were born with some birth defects (twisted front legs and degenerative hips) but we think that we are just perfect. They say that the bones in my front legs are out of place and that they didn’t grow along with my back legs, but I get along just fine on my elbows. My head also didn’t grow like it should but that just makes me more handsome. My brother only had one front leg that was deformed and he already found a forever home. My back hip is also degenerating and very soon, I will need an operation to correct this problem. This operation will probably also have to be done on my other hip some time in the future. These operations are very expensive, so I am looking for some best friends to help with the cost of these surgeries. Won’t you consider becoming one of my Best Friends and contributing to my surgery?

REVIVAL
Hello!  My name is Revival and I am approximately 1 year old.  I was dumped off at a church revival meeting when I was 6 months old and an 80 y.o. deaconess took me home and paper trained me but found that I was just too much dog for her to handle.  I am very active, a typical puppy and love to jump up and down.  I can stand with my 4 feet on the ground and jump up on the counter (something that my foster mom says isn't a good thing).  My foster mom says that I am very smart and certainly I love attention.  I am neutered, UTD on shots and HW negative.  They say that I would make a great agility dog b/c I love to jump onto the backs of people who kneel down or bend over.  Although I love to jump, a regular baby gate contains me and so far I haven’t jumped over it.  Don't you need a young energetic, handsome guy like me at your house?
