Put A Little Love In Your Life - Adopt A Chihuahua

FLORIDA
The coordinator for this region is
 floridacoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com

Below you will find the current list of Chihuahuas who are in need of a loving home. If you are interested in learning more about a specific Chihuahua, please e-mail the contact. They will get back to you with information as quickly as possible.

If you are looking for a dog that is unaltered, please do not ask.  ALL dogs are spayed/neutered without any exceptions.

If you are interested in adopting, but the Chihuahuas currently listed are not in your area, feel free to complete an adoption application.  You can also read about how our adoption process works.  Please also read up about the Chihuahua breed to be sure this is the right fit for you and your household.

***CRT requests an adoption fee of $200 - $250.00 in Florida.  Please see individual bios to determine the adoption fee for each dog.***

All of our dogs are altered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and fecal tested prior to adoption.  Again, please read about our adoption process.

CRT Best Friends Program

Won't you be my best friend?  Hi! We are Chihuahuas who need a forever home.  Right now we live with a foster mom who takes very good care of us.  We know that you would love to adopt us but can't do it right now.  If you'd like to help take care of us you can become our "Best Friend."  You can make a weekly donation of $5 or more, a monthly donation of $20 or more, or a one time donation of any amount.  Even if you are planning to adopt one of us, there are so many more still waiting for that perfect home.  When you become our Best Friend your name will appear next to our photo and we will be so grateful.  Please, help us get home.

If you would like to have a Best Friend, please email Sponsor@chihuahua-rescue.com.

All dogs are now listed alphabetically by city in the state of Florida.   Below you will find the Panhandle (Northwest),  Northeast (Jacksonville), Greater Tampa Bay, Southwest, then Central (Orlando).

COCO

"Blind Girl" -- now known as Coco - was rescued from a kill shelter in Tallahassee, FL. Coco is a beautiful brown chi with maybe some dachshund but not much -- docile and sweet and very used to being held, walked, and treated to snuggles and cuddles.  She has been spayed and chipped, had her rabies shot, is h/w negative, weighs 9.2 pounds, and according to their best guess is about 8 years old.  She might see some shadows in bright light, but seems to bump into things
in dim light -- no clouding that we can see to indicate cataracts and her pupils react slightly to direct sunlight, so we might  have her sight further checked.  Other than her vision problems she is a wonderful girl.

SPARKLE & SUKI

Sparkle and her daughter Suki were rescued from a local shelter.  Sparkle is a lovely apple-headed black and tan 5 year old girl.  She is very devoted to her daughter Suki and is a bit shier than Suki.  She tends to let Suki lead the way in most things.  She is a sweet little girl and wiggles with happiness when you pet her or talk to her.

Suki is brown with a black mask and is 4 years old.  She is more outgoing than her Mom but always returns to lick Sparkle's face.  Both girls are pretty quiet and get along well with other pets and all people.  It would break our hearts to see these two split up so we are hoping to find a home that has room and love for both.

RICCO
My best friend is Talia Signorelli - thanks to a regular donor!

Hi, my name is Ricco. I am not ready to be adopted yet because I have some skin issues but my foster mom is working on getting that cleared up. I am a 5 year old, neutered male, black & tan Chi-mix who was an owner surrender. I have been told by my foster mom that I am the cutest and sweetest little boy she has ever fostered. I love everybody and I mind very, very well. Hopefully I'll be able to be adopted soon because I am anxious to find my forever home.

CASEY

I am Casey and I am probably a "Pekachi" ' You might think that makes me a mixed breed, but I prefer the term "designer dog!" I have Chihuahua ears and the curling tail, but I have the Pekinese smushed in little face. I also have a GREAT personality! I am friendly and playful and have a lot of fun running and playing with the other dogs here. I am also a good snuggler and would love some people of my own as there are too few laps here in my foster homes for the amount of dogs!

I am spayed and up to date on shots. I weigh about 9 lbs and have a really nice medium hair coat. My age is around 4 years old so I am still a young, playful dog. I would do best in a home with another dog or some kids for playmates. Yes, I even like kids!!! That is how sweet and friendly I am! My housebreaking skills are coming along but I still have the occasional accident. My adoption fee is $200.

PATCH AND SUGAR
Their best friend is Nancy Stier. Thanks for the donation!!

Patch and Sugar and a brother and sister pair who were surrendered when their owner got sick and could no longer care for them. Patch is 8 years old and a little chunky at 13 lbs. Sugar appears to be a bit younger and weighs in at 7.5 lbs. Both dogs are sweet and loving and appear to be housebroken. They are quite attached and we would like to adopt them together if possible. They are quiet and like to snuggle on the couch with someone. They are spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. Patch tends to follow you around while Sugar is a bit more independent.

These dogs are CRT rescues. Reference checks, adoption contract and Adoption fee required. After filling out an Adoption Application, please contact floridacoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com  if you are interested in this dog. This dog must be adopted in the states of Florida. DEADEYE PETE

My best friend is Tammy and Darius Stankunas

Deadeye was born blind in one eye, but he doesn't care as long as you feed him a good meal!!  Deadeye is a 5 year old chi mix who loves to eat so you have to help him watch his waistline - not too many snacks!  He also likes a warm, soft place to sleep and will happily chase any cats in the area.   He would do best in a home with all adults or with older children as he can be grumpy with small children (and cats!).

Deadeye has been in foster care for a long time and would really love a forever home of his own.  He is a good snuggler and would love to be a lapwarmer in your home!

GREATER TAMPA BAY, FL

HANDSOME

Hi my name is  Handsome and I will be your faithful companion if you give me  the chance to get to know you. I am a little shy with new people at  first, but once I have warmed up to you I will give you lots and lots  of love.  My  mommy Grettel and I were found in an abandoned  house. I was heart worm  positive but now after treatment am  happy to report I am negative. I  am now living apart from my  mom so I can gain more independence. I am a cream color with  black tipped ears and tail and some black "highlights." I am about  3 years old and weigh approx 9lb. My foster mom says I trot  like  a little horse when I walk and am very good on a leash. I stay in  a  playpen  while the humans are at work and will often go on  my own to lay in  my bed. I get along very well with my foster  sister Chihuahua who is quite  bossy.  There is a cat here who I  did not care for at first but now don't mind  too much.

I really  love attention and affection  and will "paw" at you to  pet me. I
have  a couple of nervous habits that my foster mom calls endearing  -  I will  "lick" at the air sometimes when I am sitting with  someone or laying in  my bed. I also do this cute little move  with my foot when I am in my bed  and  someone pets me or pays  attention to me - I will scratch at my ear with my  hind  leg. I  guess I'm a silly little boy sometimes! I am very well house broken  and would never dream on marking anything. Sometimes I am afraid to  go outside (although overcoming it) and probably hold it longer  than I  should. My foster mom will walk me before she goes to  work to ensure I have "used  the "facilities" before she leave  for the day. Overall I am an easy going  lovable little guy that  would make a terrific companion for someone with room  in  their  heart.

CHICO
My best friend is Barbara Rodriguez.

UPDATE. 4-5-09

Hi! remember me, Chico? I just want to reintroduce myself to everyone. I’m a really good boy who loves to dance, dance, dance, and dance. (I won a dance contest too!!!)

I am a ‘blue ‘boy who likes to lie on your lap and cuddle. I love to walk on the leash but not toO long. I still get scared at first but I warm up to people eventually.

We go to a lot of fairs and sometimes I do not ‘show’ well because I am afraid. I just need time to adjust and I will do ok. I will need time to adjust to someone new in my life but once I do I am your friend – the very best friend forever. I promise to protect you and defend you too – and I am always at your side!

I love to dance and play with my stuffed toys and I can play fetch and tug of war. I might be a great candidate for agility training as I am light on my feet and run fast.

When I first came to rescue and I first told you all about myself I was very scared but my foster mom said that I have learned a whole lot and would love to find a permanent forever home. Please consider me for your home as it has been a long time since someone has considered me! I am a really good boy – my mama tells me so!

Hi, my name is Chico and I am quite a handsome guy. I have long legs with an apple head and big brown eyes. I have been told that my color is different – you just do not see many grey Chihuahuas – that means I’m kind of unusual.

I was found by a nice couple in the streets. I did not know that they were nice so I was not nice to them. When the lady from the rescue came to get me I was upset and very afraid. I did bite and growl when I was afraid but I don’t do that anymore. I am learning how to be a part of a successful and well behaved pack and everything is not scary anymore.

I have learned a lot since I came to live with my foster brothers and sisters. I have been walking with the dogs my age (3 years by the way) on a leash and although I get scared sometimes, I am able to follow my pack leader – my foster mom - and she calms me down.

I am excellent about going to the bathroom outside in the backyard and when we walk on the leash. I am most excited about learning how to play with my new friends and all of the toys there. My favorite toy is the stuffed monkey. I like him so much that I like to sleep with him – although I probably need to continue to work on sharing.

I love to sit on my foster mom’s lap with my foster sister and brothers. I like to lay under covers at night or cuddled with my toy monkey in my bed. Once I get to know you I am very loyal and very loving and affectionate.

I would like to have a forever home that may have another small dog to hang with or a cat – I do like cats – well they kind of move around funny and I like to just watch them.

I really will not do well with human kids. They really scare me and I’m still learning how to control my fears.

I am pretty healthy – that‘s what the big guy in blue told me. I do have a grade one heart murmur but I heard him tell my foster mom that I don’t need any pills and that if I watch my weight and do exercise that I should be just fine – just monitoring from year to year. I did not know that this is common with small guys like me. I am neutered, of course, and up to date on all of my vaccinations.

I promise I will be a good companion to a loving and patient person or persons if you give me a wonderful forever home. My adoption fee is $150.

PAPI

My name is Papi (Father in Spanish). I am a two year, 8 pound neutered male. My foster mom says I am as cute as a button and very smart. I love being loved and will return the same in kind. Toys are my favorite-especially the nosiest ones. Dinner time is a high point in my day. When given the chance I will steal from my house mates' bowls. My foster home has two other chihuahuas and three Japanese Chins. My group also oversees the care of three parrots. My furry friends and I love to play in the yard and enjoy a good nights' rest in our mom's very large bed. My current home is great-- a forever home would be even better I promise to give you all my love and devotion plus mountains of joy. I look forward to meeting with you very soon.

CENTRAL FLORIDA

ELMO
My best friend is Rene' Kurzius

Elmo is a 7 pound, healthy, 10-year-old neutered and house trained male. He gets along ok with his foster brothers and sister, but he would prefer to be in a home where he can be king of the manner without any other dogs, or where he can at least be the alpha dog.

He was quite scared when he first came into rescue, but within a couple of days he relaxed and became extremely attached to his foster dad.  The right family would need to be a little bit patient and willing to give Elmo a week or so for him to get used to his new surroundings.

While he is 10, he still has a little bit of "puppy" in him when the mood
strikes him just right.  He doesn't seem to really like toys, but when he is in the right mood he loves to run around and play chase.

He loves to be near us and insists on sleeping under the covers right next to us. He also likes napping on a pillow (under a blanket, of course!)or on the couch.

He isn't used to climbing stairs, but we're working on that. He can climb
them, but is still a little scared to do so. He gets a little bit more confidence each time he uses them.
