Best Friends Program
Won't you be my best
friend? Hi! We are Chihuahuas who need a forever home. Right now we live with
a foster mom who takes very good care of us. We know that you would love to adopt us
but can't do it right now. If you'd like to help take care of us you can become our
"Best Friend." You can make a weekly donation of $5 or more, a monthly
donation of $20 or more, or a one time donation of any amount.
Even if you are planning to adopt one of us, there are so many more still
waiting for that perfect home. When you become our Best Friend your name will appear
next to our photo and we will be so grateful. Please, help us get home.
If you would like to have a Best Friend, please email Sponsor@chihuahua-rescue.com.
All dogs are now listed
alphabetically by city in the state of Florida. Below you will find
the Panhandle (Northwest), Northeast (Jacksonville), Greater Tampa Bay,
Southwest, then Central (Orlando).

JULIO |
|
 |
 |
Julio is an eight year old, 10 lb boy who was left at
a dog groomer's by his elderly owner. He is a great dog - very
affectionate and sweet! Julio would do best in a quiet, settled
home. He loves to go for walks or snuggle at home. He does not
require a lot of attention, and is happy to just be near his people.
He is housebroken and well mannered.
Julio's adoption fee is $75. He is a CRT dog so an online adoption
application should be completed prior to adopting.

CiCi |
|
 |
My name is CiCi. I am a 12 pound 4 1/2
year old female who is full of energy but very sweet and loving.
Although I have a great time playing with my foster sisters, I would
rather be in your lap or snuggled up next to you in a chair or on a
sofa. My foster mom thinks I would make someone a really great
companion because I am such a cuddle bunny and I have such a sweet
disposition. If you have lots of love to share and would like to
receive lots of love in return, then I am the girl for you.
Ci Ci is being fostered in Tallahassee. Her adoption fee is $150.

LUCKY
©
My best friend is
Jenny Clark - thanks Jenny! |
|
 |
|
Lucky
was
picked
up
as a
stray
in a
more
rural
area
of
our
county.
He
is
estimated
to
be
about
2
years
old.
We
were
asked
to
take
him
into
rescue
and
he’s
been
with
me
ever
since
(this
was
April
07).
He
was
vetted
and
neutered
before
I
took
him
home.
He
is
walking
better
on a
leash
now
and
uses
a
harness
rather
than
a
collar.
I
think
perhaps
a
catch
pole
had
been
used
on
him
and
he
would
just
freak
out
with
just
the
collar.
He
is a
loving
dog
and
craves
attention
and
is
very
active
and
playful.
Does
great
with
the
other
dogs.
Lucky
has
a
seizure
disorder
and
is
on
Phenobarbital
twice
a
day
for
it.
They
cost
about
10
cents
a
pill
and
he
gets
½
tablet
morning
and
night.
His
pills
go
in a
small
piece
of
American
cheese
(or
bread)
and
he
takes
them
willingly.
When
he
has
a
seizure,
he
will
lay
down
and
just
trembles.
Sometimes
he
makes
a
little
whimpering
noise.
He
has
some
involuntary
muscle
spasms.
He
has
never
lost
control
of
his
bowels
or
bladder.
If
you
pick
him
up
and
talk
to
him
softly
and
stroke
his
head
it
seems
to
comfort
him.
I’ve
noticed
the
seizures
occurring
mostly
in
the
mornings
though
whether
this
is
because
that’s
when
I’m
sitting
around
reading,
watching
TV
and
am
just
present
then,
I
don’t
know.
He
has
also
had
them
when
he’s
been
outside.
He
will
now
jump
up
on
the
couch
and
put
his
head
in
my
lap.
This
was
such
a
breakthrough.
It
only
happened
within
the
last
couple
of
months.
He
will
let
you
touch
him
all
over
his
body
and
will
lay
on
his
back
for
a
tummy
scratch.
At
first,
he
is
pretty
stiff
but
then
relaxes.
He
would
not
take
food
or a
treat
from
my
hand
for
the
longest
time
but
does
now..
He
is
usually
good
to
come
when
called
and
and
not
practicing
his
selective
hearing.
He
is
hand
shy
and
for
the
first
several
months
would
run
away
when
I
extended
my
hand.
When
he
lies
down as
I
approach
him,
he
cowers
somewhat.
Other
times
he
will
roll
over
on
his
back
He
also,
if
thrown
a
toy,
acted
to
me
as
though
he’s
had
things
thrown
at
him
to
scare
him
away.
He
has
been
friendly
with
people
who
have
come
to
the
house
and
goes
up
to
them
willingly
to
greet
them.
He
has
not
been
exposed
to
any
children.
He
is
no
shier
with
men
than
women.
He
has
started
to
play
with
toys
which
he
will
carry
around
and
shake
and
sometimes
bring
them
to
me
to
throw
for
him
so
he
can
chase
them.
He
sleeps
in a
crate
at
night
and
I
sometimes
crate
him
during
the
day
for
short
periods
of
time.
He
has
been
really
good
about
going
outside
to
potty
during
the
day.
I am
home
most
of
the
time
so
we
go
outside
frequently.
He
has
been
staying
in
my
utility
room
when
not
in
the
house
where
I
have
papers
on
the
floor.
I
leave
the
crate
door
open
during
the
night
and
on
occasion
he
will
poop
or
pee
during
the
night
on
the
newspapers
so I
certainly
can’t
say
he’s
housebroken.
It
has
been
very
hard
to teach
him
things
because
he
is
so
skittish
and
I
certainly
don’t
want
to
brandish
a
newspaper
at
him.
The
little
guy
has
had
a
pretty
rough
life,
I
think.
He
has
made
tremendous
strides
in
the
time
that
I’ve
had
him.
I
have
not
seen
him
chew
on
anything
that
he
shouldn’t
or
dig
in
the
yard.
When
I go
out
the
front
door,
he
wants
to
go
out
and
I
feel
certain
would
bolt
if
given
the
opportunity.
He
is
learning
to
stay
back
when
I go
out
the
door.
I
put
my
hand
in
front
of
him
and
tell
him “stay”
but
I am
very
careful
that
he
doesn’t
run
out.
He
is
also
learning
“no.”
Lucky
weighs
about
7.5
to 8
pounds.
He
has
a
pretty
black,
very
short
haired
coat
with
a
white
blaze
on
his
chest,
and
beautiful
dark
brown
eyes.
He
needs
a
very
patient
family,
but
is
such
a
happy
little
guy
he’ll
reward
you
with
much
love
and
affection.

FRENCHIE |
|
 |
Hi, my name is “Frenchy” Chico and I am quite a handsome
guy. I have short muscular legs with an apple head and golden eyes. I
have an under bite that my foster mom says gives my heritage away. My
fur is bunny soft and creamy white. You see, I am Chihuahua and French
Bull dog. I weigh only 6 pounds so I am a muscular little fellow with a
bit of a mischievous but playful streak.
I was surrendered by a nice family who could not care for me anymore. I
was well loved. I like little and big kids and like to play but I can be
a little rough. My foster mom says once I am ‘taken care of’ I will be a
little less possessive after a while. I am learning a lot from my foster
pack including that I have to submit sometimes to the very top dog
(which has always been me in the past but not here.) I have been walking
with the dogs on a leash and have discovered that I like this walking on
the leash. I am proud to say I do my ‘business’ outside like all
civilized dogs but sometimes I just cannot resist marking so all of the
other guys and gals in the house know I am the one. My foster mom put a
band on me to prevent me from doing this and I stopped (well I don’t
like the other guys to see me in that get up). I will need some support
when I move I’m sure.
I love to sit on laps and be held. I like to give little kisses and
crawl under the covers at night to sleep. Once I get to know you I am
very loyal and very loving and affectionate. I would like to have a
forever home that I may be the only dog or ok I can take other dog or
dogs too. I don’t mind the cats and as I said I like those human kids. I
am pretty healthy and I think I did pretty good at the docs. They said
that I am going to get my neutering on the 13th. I’m not sure what that
is but it is very important for me and will help me get a great forever
home. I am a very young 8 years old and will be so much more relaxed
once I am neutered. By the way , a little fellow like me can live a long
time so 8 years is just getting started.
I promise I will be the best for the best if you just give me a chance
and take me home with you.
Frenchy's adoption fee is $150. This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract
and Adoption fee required. After filling out an Adoption
Application, please contact

interested in this dog. This dog must be adopted in the states of
Florida. Please be sure to read our adoption process and then fill

BIG BOY |
|
 |
HI, my name is Big Boy, although I am not that big but my
human pack leader – my new foster mom- says that it must be because I
have a BIG heart. I am ‘tall’ with very long legs. Sometimes I even have
trouble standing or sitting because my legs are so long.
I was having a very hard life before I came to the rescue. My human
companions were lost and I was all by myself. I could not eat well so I
became very, very thin and I did not know why. I had very little contact
with other humans and no contact with other animals. I am blind
(probably from birth) which impacted my loneliness. It took several
people to realize that I am worth a second chance and I think right now
I am pretty happy and making the best of my second chance.
I have my own space now which is just fine with me. I have comfortable
blankies and pillows. I can hear (although my human friends are not sure
how much I hear and I can’t describe it) other dogs barking and cats
making noises and something very funny (guinea pig). I sometimes hear
funny things from something called a TV and I know all of my companion’s
smells. I walk around my new home and I love the backyard. I also love
to walk on a leash and am able to hear my foster mom’s voice and smell
and the other dogs smell as I always walk with a friend or two.
When I am tired of all this moving, I am placed in my special area and
can curl up and sleep. I can also curl up on my foster mom’s lap and
snuggle near to another foster.
I try to tell things to my foster mom and my new friends. I occasionally
do a little barking howl. When I want to go to the bathroom or come out
of my special play pen, I get up and walk to the side and make a wee
noise with a nudge of my head into the soft side. My foster mom gets me
and carries me outside so I can go to the bathroom and walk around with
the other guys and gals.
I did go to the doctors and he said that I am pretty healthy for my age
– 13 years – I’m just beginning my senior years. He said that I have a
slight heart murmur probably because I am malnourished and need to gain
a little weight. I have not eaten well because my teeth and gums are in
very bad shape. My foster human mom feeds me a special soft mixture that
I love and have been eating like crazy so on Monday the 26th of April I
will go in to the doctor’s and get my teeth and gums all done. I’m also
going to be neutered! These humans say that even at my age it is
beneficial and important that all male dogs are neutered!
I am now “out of my former bondage” as one of my rescuers stated and
would love to know I have special friends so if anyone could be my
forever friend and buddy I would love that. I am very thankful for my
second chance and now know that I will be cared for and safe for the
rest of my life.

CHICO |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
Hi, my name is Chico and I am quite a handsome guy. I
have long legs with an apple head and big brown eyes. I have been told
that my color is different – you just do not see many grey Chihuahuas –
that means I’m kind of unusual.
I was found by a nice couple in the streets. I did not know that they
were nice so I was not nice to them. When the lady from the rescue came
to get me I was upset and very afraid. I did bite and growl when I was
afraid but I don’t do that anymore. I am learning how to be a part of a
successful and well behaved pack and everything is not scary anymore.
I have learned a lot since I came to live with my foster brothers and
sisters. I have been walking with the dogs my age ( 3 years by the way)
on a leash and although I get scared sometimes, I am able to follow my
pack leader – my foster mom - and she calms me down.
I am excellent about going to the bathroom outside in the backyard and
when we walk on the leash. I am most excited about learning how to play
with my new friends and all of the toys there. My favorite toy is the
stuffed monkey. I like him so much that I like to sleep with him –
although I probably need to continue to work on sharing.
I love to sit on my foster mom’s lap with my foster sister and brothers.
I like to lay under covers at night or cuddled with my toy monkey in my
bed. Once I get to know you I am very loyal and very loving and
affectionate.
I would like to have a forever home that may have another small dog to
hang with or a cat – I do like cats – well they kind of move around
funny and I like to just watch them.
I really will not do well with human kids. They really scare me and I’m
still learning how to control my fears.
I am pretty healthy – that‘s what the big guy in blue told me. I do have
a grade one heart murmur but I heard him tell my foster mom that I don’t
need any pills and that if I watch my weight and do exercise that I
should be just fine – just monitoring from year to year. I did not know
that this is common with small guys like me. I am neutered, of course,
and up to date on all of my vaccinations.
I promise I will be a good companion to a loving and patient person or
persons if you give me a wonderful forever home. My adoption fee is
$150.

MIA |
|
 |
Hi, my name is Mia and I am a very young 11 year old going on
3year old little girl. My friend Bella has now found her forever
home so I am ready to have a go at finding my home.
I am losing weight because I can walk with the ‘young things’ and
that is taking care of business. In fact, I am thinking of joining
in when these ‘young things’ play together. It actually looks like
fun, so I am going to keep trying it out. You know, 11 years old
is not very old for a Chihuahua. In fact, I feel pretty darn
young!
I feel even better now that my teeth have been taken care of. I
had horrible teeth. In fact, I could not even eat well with those
bad teeth. Now I am contemplating chewing on bones! How about
that! I am even trying to play with toys – yes I think these young
dogs I live with have it going on!
My vet did say that I had one little problem but we are hoping now
that my teeth are taken care of and I lose weight that it will go
away. It is something about my Kidney and my levels were a little
off. Pretty soon I will get more tests to check it out and
hopefully everything will be great because I have lost weight and
have great teeth. I’ll keep you posted on that. I do like cats and
other dogs but best of all I like to walk and give kisses and
please my forever family.
