Put A Little Love In Your Life - Adopt A Chihuahua

NY, NJ
The coordinator for
this region
is
NYNJCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com

Below you will find the current list of Chihuahuas who are in need of a loving home. If you are interested in learning more about a specific Chihuahua, please e-mail the contact. They will get back to you with information as quickly as possible.

If you are looking for a dog that is unaltered, please do not ask.  ALL dogs are spayed/neutered without any exceptions.

If you are interested in adopting, but the Chihuahuas currently listed are not in your area, feel free to complete an adoption application.  You can also read about how our adoption process works.  Please also read up about the Chihuahua breed to be sure this is the right fit for you and your household.

***CRT has an adoption fee of at least $200.00 in this region.  In the event that you are adopting a puppy from us, which is very rare, the adoption fee will increase.
All of our dogs are altered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and fecal tested prior to adoption.  Again, please read about our adoption process.

CRT Best Friends Program

Won't you be my best friend?  Hi! We are Chihuahuas who need a forever home.  Right now we live with a foster mom who takes very good care of us.  We know that you would love to adopt us but can't do it right now.  If you'd like to help take care of us you can become our "Best Friend."  You can make a weekly donation of $5 or more, a monthly donation of $20 or more, or a one time donation of any amount.  Even if you are planning to adopt one of us, there are so many more still waiting for that perfect home.  When you become our Best Friend your name will appear next to our photo and we will be so grateful.  Please, help us get home.

If you would like to have a Best Friend, please email Sponsor@chihuahua-rescue.com.

FIGARO
This little wonky boy is Figaro. He is quite the little character and has brought lots of laughs and smiles to this home and to our destinations when he accompanies me in the car.

Figaro is a new man now that he has been neutered and has had a dental. He had a very sore mouth when he arrived, and was struggling with a little arthritis. A few teeth removed and a little Cosequin for those joints and he is loving life! He really enjoys zipping to and fro around the yard, as he likes to keep an eye on the action. But he also really enjoys his naps. Being a little senior, early to bed, late to rise and a nap in between, suits him just fine. He is quite independent so he is fine finding a spot to watch and observe but keeps us in sight.

Fig has some odd undiagnosed skin/coat issue. He will wake up one day with a small patch of hair missing. It grows back almost as quickly as it falls out. He doesn't seem to have any malaise involved with these bouts. He remains chipper and happy. He has been tested for all the obvious possibilities that could cause this occasional issue, but so far everything has come back negative.

Figaro is hoping to find a family who he can share his senior years with. He is active and cheerful and has lots of living left to do!

If you would like more information on Figaro, you can contact his foster mom lltlhd@hotmail.com.  He is hoping someone will be asking about him.

Please complete an adoption application and then email NYNJCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com  to let her know you are interested in Figaro. He is in Syracuse, NY and we’d prefer to adopt to someone in Central to Western NY state. Of course, a home visit is required before any adoption.

Figaro has one Save-A-Chi sponsor, but could use another or a Best Friend!

ITTY BIT

Itty Bit is an adorable reddish blonde smooth coated Chihuahua .  She weighs about 7 pounds.  Itty Bit was returned to CRT due to her owner’s declining health.  She is approximately 10 years old but you would never know it.  This little girl has been through a lot for her young age.  When she came to CRT, her luxating patellas were so bad on her back legs, she could not use them.  She actually pulled herself forward with her front legs and dragged her back legs as her back legs were bent like a crab.  When some people saw walking like that they cried.  But CRT had one of our vets perform what I consider to be almost a miracle.  This vet fixed her luxating patellas one at a time and now, not only does she walk normal but she can dance and even jump up on the furniture.  She is as cute as a button and just wants to be held.

She would probably do best in a home with no young children.  She absolutely loves to snuggle in your lap all the time.  If you are looking for a lap dog, Itty Bit is for you.  She is housebroken but you need to put her outside on a regular basis.  Itty Bit is looking for a loving home in New York City , New Jersey or Western New York .  If you are interested please fill out an application and also send an email to tmcchm@gmail.com.

APACHE
Apache is being fostered in Buffalo, NY. He is a young 2 year old, blue brindle male that weighs about 5.5 pounds. Apache is one of the prettiest dogs we have ever seen - his coloring is very unusal.

He is shy right now from lack of handling and socialization when he was a pup but he is so eager for love and affection! He loves to be petted and scratched. We are still working with him on being held, but it should not take long. He is very sweet and loving, you can just see how much he wants to be with you in his eyes.

Apache needs to be placed in home where someone can give him the attention and time he needs to adjust and learn. He will need another little dog to depend on and keep him company. He is very close to the other foster dogs here. Apache is not house or leash trained but does use pee pads.

He is recently neutered, brought up to date with his shots, tested neg for HW and microchipped. If you have the love and time for this little angel, please submit an application online. He is looking for his human and hopes to find his home and family soon! No large dogs, small children or invisible fences please!

If you would like more information on Apache, please email NYNJCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com

LIBBY LOUISE

This is Libby Louise, the sweetest little 5 lb. shy girl one could ever want. Libby is a lucky girl who has escaped a puppy mill after nine years of life. She is learning all about life outside of a cage and is working hard to become confident and trusting.

Libby Louise loves to sit on the couch at night next to you and curl up and nap. She also loves to sleep in the sun in the back yard on a nice warm day. Libby is not housetrained but is showing some success. She has few accidents if she is carefully watched and you pick up her signals that she needs to go out.

She wants to be all the things dogs who come out of normal circumstances are, and is learning...it is just going to take time. She will need someone who is patient and can enjoy the rewards of watching a little dog learn and trust. Little Libby, despite her start in life doesn't have a mean bone in her body and would love a mom who is home all day and maybe another small dog for her to imitate and bond with. She has been spayed, had a dental, is up to date on vaccines, is heart worm negative and on preventative. She is hoping to find a mom of her very own who will love her for all she is now and is willing to help her be whatever she can become.

***If you feel you have the right home for Libby, please read our policies and procedures at www.chihuahua-rescue.com/procedure.htm then fill out an online adoption application.  Once you do that, please email NYNJcoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com

CHILI

Hola! My name is Chili! I can’t wait to find my forever home, although my foster mommy confessed she is really going to have a hard time letting me go. I overheard her say I was such a smart, quiet, happy, silly, sweet and affectionate boy. I amaze her with my housebreaking skills, my love for walks*I walk great on a leash* and how I come to anyone who calls my name! Be careful, cuz’ I will jump right on your lap to give you kisses!

I just got over being a meanie toward the other small male Chi in the house, but the little tiny girl Chi I really love and protect. Hey, I like to be the boss of the boys! I get along with strangers, but please make sure they calmly approach me so I can get a sniff * I am sure if they are your friends, they will be mine too!

About mid May, my vet said I was kinda chubby (9lbs), but mom, my foster siblings and the neighborhood kids (ages 9-13) have been helping me workout and I am being fed a protein-rich diet with fruits and veggies-- I love it! I am feeling better than ever! My foster mom thinks I would thrive in a quiet home with lots of cuddles and lots of attention. Older gentle kids and cats OK, although I would love to be an only child! I have a dentist appointment to get my teeth cleaned, then I will be ready for my new home!

***If you feel you have the right home for Chili, please read our policies and procedures at www.chihuahua-rescue.com/procedure.htm then fill out an online adoption application.  Once you do that, please email NYNJcoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com

PACO

Paco is an 8 year old altered male Chihuahua who weighs about 7 lbs.  Paco is a little guy full of personality, who wants nothing more than to cuddle under the blankets with you on the couch.  Paco came from a home with less than ideal living conditions. In his old house, Paco was never trained to relieve himself outside, so it has taken him a little while to understand the concept of housebreaking.  In the past few months, however, he has made great strides, and rarely has an accident in the house now.  Paco is a bit nervous around new people as many Chihuahuas are, but once he warms up to you, he will be your best friend.  Paco is great with other dogs and could care less about the cats in his foster home.  He is talkative, and will bark to let you know when he wants something or is displeased about something going on in the house.  Paco is afraid of stairs.  He will grudgingly go up and down the stairs to the backyard, but if there are more than 3 or 4 stairs, he needs to be carried up and down them.  He loves going for walks, but is just as happy to get a little while to lie outside in the sun every day.  He is a low-maintenance guy and in the right home will make somebody a wonderful companion.  Paco needs a home with an experienced Chihuahua owner without small children.  Paco has been neutered, had his teeth cleaned, been microchipped, and is up to date on his vaccinations.

***If you feel you have the right home for Chico, please read our policies and procedures at www.chihuahua-rescue.com/procedure.htm then fill out an online adoption application.  Once you do that, please email NYNJcoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com
