Meet Oliver! Oliver is wonderful little guy with the sweetest disposition! Oliver is 13 years young and is in good health requiring no medication. Ollie is a little overweight at 11lbs but we have changed his food are making progress with his weight loss. Ollie loves food, no doubt about it. When it’s time to eat Oliver is one happy boy dancing and bowing and his tail wags non stop! Even though Ollie is on a weight loss plan he still gets treats. Thankfully he’s happy with some healthy vegetables. : )
In Ollie’s foster home he lives with several other dogs and a cat, all of which he gets along with and there have been no problems whatsoever. Oliver has tried to be a buddy to my Chihuahua but my Chi wants nothing to do with him-or any of the other dogs for that matter. So, for now, Ollie is my buddy! He’s been learning our daily routine and does well. Before the cold weather arrived Ollie was content to take looooong sun baths on the deck. Now Ollie takes his sunbaths in his elevated bed that I place by the patio doors on sunny days. He’s just as happy squeezing into a little patch of sunlight with the other dogs (and cat) on the floor.
Ollie, although not unfriendly, was a bit guarded at first when trusting and sharing his affections. He now will come up and nudge or paw at your hand to get some neck scratches or belly rubs. He recently started to give kisses and wants to sleep on my lap. Ollie mostly sleeps in his little elevated bed (actually it’s a booster car seat that is raised off the floor) or on the couch-his new favorite place. After I bought the steps to help him get on/off the couch he’s in heaven! When I’m away and come home he now greets me at the door, with a little stuffed animal in his mouth, dancing and excited! Sometimes, before I open the door, I can see him scrambling to find a stuffed animal to present to me. So adorable!
Oliver is taken outside to potty with the other dogs but he doesn’t particularly care to use the outside facilities. He is litterbox trained (lined with puppy pee pads) and is pretty good about using it. Sometimes there are messes to clean up outside of the litter pan, for instance, if he’s too close to the edge of the box when having a bowel moment. He does lift his leg so sometimes he pees outside of the box even though he’s standing in the box. Hey, he tries!! I keep his litterbox very clean so he is less likely to have accidents elsewhere.
Ollie’s knees are weak but it’s to be expected due to his age. He is able to climb stairs and is very mobile but many times I carry him as we have lots of steps in and around the house. When its time to “go bye-bye” he’s down all those steps in no time flat waiting to get into the car. He sits in his car seat and takes in the world looking very alert and oh so happy! He has ridden in the car quite a few times for several hours without any problems. If we stop to eat while on a drive, Ollie sits up (looks like a prairie dog) and begs for a few scraps. He’s so cute!
Oliver is looking for his forever home where he can live out his remaining years-someplace where he is loved, adored and cared for. He’s such a sweet, easy going little guy that is looking for someone who can open their heart to him. He’ll steal your heart!
