All
dogs will be kept on a high-quality commercial dry dog food unless there
is a medical reason which specifies otherwise
All
dogs will be maintained at a normal weight. Overweight dogs *must* be on a
reducing diet and must be actively losing weight
All
dogs must be leash trained and housebroken before adoption (exceptions
must be written on the contract when the dog is adopted)
All
dogs will be kept clean and bathed as necessary (4 – 6 wks), and nails
trimmed as necessary
All
adopters will be given a list from foster when dog is adopted, including
food/feeding techniques, information on maintaining housebreaking,
likes/dislikes of dog, how to work with habits that need work (leg-lifting,
dominance displays, etc)
All
adopters will be given directions from foster to introduce the dog
to their current pets and family members
When
dog is delivered to adopter, it must be groomed, nails trimmed, free
from all external parasites, and accompanied by vet records
We
encourage all foster homes to limit the number of animals in their household
so that they will have the time to devote to housetraining and leash
training. The number of pets an individual volunteer can handle
will vary, but remember that many people have ideas that more than a certain
number of animals is the sign of a collector or hoarder. One should
not keep more than one can keep up with in cleaning, feeding, and training.
CRT does not expect foster homes to violate the local laws, ordinances and
homeowners association rules. The CRT Regional Coordinator will
approve the number of fosters in each foster home.
All
health records for foster dogs must be maintained accurately and up to date,
including h/w preventative
Each
foster home must have an emergency plan for
evacuation in case of local disaster
Each
foster home must have an emergency plan in case of a personal emergency such
as health issues, accident, etc. Such plan must be shared with the
coordinator so that CRT dogs can be retrieved and cared for.
If
foster volunteer decides to leave CRT or needs to have a dog removed from
his/her care, the foster is responsible for providing the coordinator or
Board of Directors advance notice of no less than two weeks except in an
extreme emergency. Foster agrees to provide transportation to the nearest
other volunteer or coordinator
