Meet beautiful Shirley. Shirley is a black and white chihuahua mix with a tiny bit of tan on her. She is as sweet as can be. We are excited to introduce her to the world and help her find a forever home.
Shirley came to CRT through another rescue group. She had been originally found as a stray in Killeen Texas and no family ever came looking for her. The other group helped save her, but then reached out to CRT to ask if we could help with her. They knew we focused on Chihuahuas and had a large following. They asked us to accept Shirley into our program and help her find a forever home. We teamed together to transport Shirley the 4 hours to Dallas, and she is safely in a CRT home.
Oh how Shirley adores her family. She loves meeting new people and is friendly to everyone she meets. Her tail won’t quit wagging (we keep thinking she may lift herself up in the air like a helicopter – LOL). She is a “velcro” dog and follows her people. She will often “paw” at you and ask to be picked up so she can cuddle. She loves to sit on your lap and share loving moments with you. One of our favorite things about her, she will often fall asleep in your lap and has the cutest little snore! We love to see her relaxed, feeling safe with us, and snoring away! Shirley also loves belly rubs. If you are looking for a cuddle buddy – Shirley will volunteer. Then, when she is ready to play, she hops down and starts playing again!
Shirley gets along well with the other small dogs in her foster home. She is very respectful of the senior dog and is careful around her. Shirley loves to play with the other small dogs in her foster home. She runs and tumbles with them. She brings joy to her environment. Shirley also plays with toys. Her favorite toy is a plush hedgehog that says “be mine”. We will be sending it with her! And her favorite thing is a nylabone. She loves chewing on her nylabone! When Shirley is feeling mischievous, she steals her foster Mom’s slippers and prances around the house with them. Oh how she makes us laugh! Shirley loves running in the yard and exploring every inch of it. She will come to you when you call her.
Shirley is very smart. Shirley is potty trained. She has learned to use the doggy door. She goes potty outside and will use a peepee pad as a backup. She rarely has an accident. At night, she sleeps in her doggy bed inside of an ex-pen. Shirley walks well on a harness and leash. We notice she is uncomfortable when you put her harness on, but once you put it on she is fine. Currently we have a harness that fits over her head. We are going to purchase a new one that she can step into and we hope that might address her uneasiness. We’ll update her bio as we know more.
Our vet estimates Shirley to be about 2 years old. She is a perfect 8 pounds. Shirley has a white coat with black highlights and a tiny bit of tan on her. She has cute ears and beautiful eyes. She has a cute habit of “talking” to you when she wants something!
The perfect home for Shirley would be a moderately active home. Shirley will fit into any family situation. She would really enjoy having a sibling to grow up with. She is silly and playful, and she enjoys her doggy friends. We feel Shirley would be great with a newly retired family or a work at home family, as she does get lonely if left for long periods of time by herself. Shirley needs a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). Shirley does react to noises by barking, but it is easily corrected. She should do fine with children 10 and older. She is currently doing the “puppy nibble” on your hands (and we are working with her on this) but for that reason we will not place her with a family with younger children.
If you are looking for a loyal fun loving dog, Shirley could be a perfect match for your family.
