Introducing adorable Bruiser. Don’t let his “tough guy” name fool you. This is the sweetest little guy. He has a great personality – get ready to fall in love.
Bruiser was a surrender from a follower of our program. They had adopted him, but their senior dog did not appreciate Bruiser’s energy and didn’t want him as a brother. So this sweet couple reached out to CRT and asked if we could help find Bruiser the perfect forever home. We are happy to help. This guy is a gem.
Bruiser gets along well with the other small dogs in his foster home. Bruiser is young and enjoys playing. He loves to run and tumble with his brothers. He is very outgoing. Bruiser respects the boundaries of the other dogs in the household – he just wants to get along and fit in. Bruiser also loves toys. His favorites are the small squeaky fluffy toys. He loves the small plush lambie that our CRT followers sent to the puppies and his lambie will come with him to his forever home! He currently has the young dog habit of chewing on your hand to get attention. When he does this, we immediately give him a toy to redirect his attention. This definitely works because he loves toys so much! Young dogs typically grow out of this phase as you work with them and they continue to mature.
Bruiser adores his human family. He comes running when they are around, wanting to be picked up and cuddled. Then he is down on the floor again with his siblings for more fun and playing! He also enjoys meeting new people. Bruiser is very social. He will love to greet visitors in your home and welcome them with love and kisses.
Bruiser loves to explore and is very adventurous. He enjoys going out in the yard and exploring. It is important to note that Bruiser is small and therefore will always need his human nearby while he is outside (there are instances where hawks or large birds will swoop down and pick up small dogs under 5 pounds, so you will want to be there to protect Bruiser). We also want to emphasize that your fence must be very secure. Bruiser is so tiny that he can easily slip under the smallest opening in a fence, so he will need to be in a home with a solid, wooden fenced yard. His home will need to be secure in all aspects, including protection around the front door. He loves to run to the door to meet you and he can be a door darter. He also sometimes gets under your feet as he is following you around and can be a tripping hazard. This is a normal behavior in young dogs and we are working with him on this. But his adopting family will want to be aware.
Bruiser is about 1 year old. He weighs about 4.8 pounds and is fully grown. His coat is a beautiful tan color with white highlights. He has the longest legs ever! His ears stand up when you call his name. He has the perfect chihuahua look. And he has the sweetest spirit.
Bruiser’s ideal home will be one with a high activity level. He would love to have another small dog (maybe 1 – 4 years old) to play with. He would probably be a good only dog too as long as his family was around to interact with him. Due to his small size, we do not recommend a home with larger dogs. Bruiser will need a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). He would be great in a home where there’s a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. Bruiser does not bark much. There are no children in his foster home, but we think he will do well in a home with older, mature children (14 and older).
Bruiser has done well with his potty training. He will potty outside and has had very few accidents in his foster home. At night, he sleeps safely in a dog bed in his crate (his foster family has the crate next to their bed so he can be “with them”). He is good at walking on a harness and leash.
We adore this little boy, and know there is a perfect family out there for him. If you love to have fun and then cuddle, Bruiser wants to be your BFF.
