Meet beautiful Bella. Bella is a Shih Tzu (honory Chihuahua!) mix. This girl has a loving, gentle spirit and will make a wonderful family member.
Bella’s original owners are elderly and are experiencing failing health. Her family surrendered her to the Weatherford Animal Shelter (about 1 1/2 hours from Dallas). She had lived with the same family since she was a puppy. The family was heartbroken but could no longer care for her. The Weatherford Shelter reached out to CRT to see if we could bring her into our program and find her a new home. We are happy to help with Bella’s journey. And we send our best wishes to the family as they battle their own health challenges.
Bella is the sweetest little girl. She has a gentle soul and was a bit shy when she arrived in her foster home. For the first week, Bella watched the family routines from her soft dog bed. It was as if she was trying to understand where she fit in. Bella is very quiet and reserved. As she has settled in, her personality has begun to come out more and more. And we are falling in love with this sweetheart!
Bella gets along well with the other small and medium dogs in her foster home. She is submissive and relaxed around her foster siblings. Bella will even play a little. She loves to do zoomies around the house. Bella enjoys hanging around and enjoys the other dogs’s company. We are impressed with how easily she has fit in. She also enjoys time alone each day as she relaxes in her soft dog bed and watches the day unfold around her. Bella enjoys playing with toys. Bella also loves the sun and enjoys exploring the yard.
Bella is a bit shy when she meets new people. She has enjoyed getting to know her foster Mom and Bella loves her! In the mornings, Bella greets her foster Mom by doing zoomies on the bed. It is as if she is saying “hello world!”. After her morning zoomies, she stretches out asking for belly rubs. She loves attention and affection. Bella definitely acts younger than she is! She will get into your chair and lay between your legs, receiving cuddles and love, and will even give you kisses. But then when she has had enough love, she will move into her dog bed and relax. One endearing thing about Bella, she loves you so much that she will follow you from room to room. But often she is quiet and stealth about it. More than once, we have looked around wondering where Bella is, only to realize we shut her behind in the laundry room etc. We love that she is still an explorer, exploring other areas of the house at her age!
Bella is smart. She knows commands such as “come and eat” and “let’s go outside”. She has never snapped with the other dogs or with people. She has the cutest underbite – we adore her cute smile!
Our vet estimates that Bella is about 11 years old. She weighs 9 pounds, which is a great weight for her. We believe Bella is a Shih Tzu mix. Bella has a soft, medium length coat. It is dark gray with creme highlights. Her coat is very thick and will require periodic grooming. Bella also has amazing ears and soft eyes. In addition to her core vet work, CRT has completed a dental for Bella and her teeth now sparkle. We know her new family will appreciate her shiny teeth and fresh breath!
Bella is just the sweetest girl. She is laid back and submissive. Her ideal home would be one that was laid back with moderate activity. She would do well with another dog, or would be fine as an only dog (as long as her family was around alot to love her). She enjoys soft doggie beds and relaxing moments at home. Bella will bark at noises, but settles down fairly quickly. She will also cry when you leave the house to do errands. For this reason, we do not think she is apartment appropriate. There are no children in her foster home, but we think she would be fine with older, mature children (10 and older).
Bella has done well with her potty habits when kept on a schedule. She is potty trained and she will go to the back door when she needs to go outside. At night, she enjoys sleeping in the bed with her family. Bella does fine on a harness and leash.
