Meet Debi. Debi is an adorable Chihuahua. She is a beautiful girl who wants to share her love with you.

Debi was a stray found in the Dallas area. She had no collar, no tags and no microchip. The Good Samaritans who found her kept her safe as they looked for her owners. When no owners could be found, they reached out to CRT and asked if we could bring her into our program and help her find a forever home. This girl is sweet and we are happy to help.

Debi gets along well with the other small dogs in her foster home. She basically ignores them, but will hang around them and supervise as they go about their daily activities. We believe Debi would do well as the only dog in the home so she could get all the love and attention! Debi is just starting to play with toys a little. And she enjoys playing with her humans.

Debi loves to lay outside and get her sunbathing in! It is important to note that Debi is small and therefore will always need her human nearby while she is outside (there are instances where hawks or large birds will swoop down and pick up small dogs under 5 pounds, so you will want to be there to protect Debi). We also want to emphasize that your fence must be very secure. Debi is so tiny that she can easily slip under the smallest opening in a fence, so she will need to be in a home with a solid, wooden fenced yard.

Debi adores her family. When she meets new people, she will bark a little to let you know someone new is visiting. But she settles down quickly once she realizes she is safe. The quickest way to make her comfortable is to sit down and let her come to you. She is so tiny, that people look really tall to her! Debi LOVES her foster Dad (we think she likes him the most – LOL). Debi enjoys curling up on the couch or chair and cuddling next to you. Debi is so small that she needs foam doggy stairs or a ramp to get up onto the furniture. She has a very sweet personality.

Debi is smart! She has done great with her potty training. She will go potty outside and goes to the back door to let you know she has to go out. Debi is good in a crate. She loves sleeping in bed with her humans. Note she is a little afraid during thunderstorms, and likes to be comforted when the storms roll through (she is not an extreme case, but does like to feel safe with you). We are working with Debi on a harness and leash and while she does not love it, she is beginning to get the idea that daily walks could be fun!

Debi is about 5 years old.  She weighs 4.8 pounds and is fully grown.  Debi has a beautiful white coast with reddish highlights.  And she has the cutest face.  When Debi came to us, we noticed she had a limp.  She was diagnosed with a luxating patella, and CRT has completed the surgery for her.  She is feeling so much better, and that knee is now in great shape!  Note it will be important to keep Debi at an ideal weight through her lifetime so we don’t put additional strain on her repaired knee.  We have also completed a dental on her.  She is feeling great!

The ideal home for Debi would be one with moderate energy. We think she would be good as an only dog, or maybe with another small laid back buddy. Due to her tiny size, we do not recommend larger dogs. Debi does need a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works away from home 10-12 hours a day). Debi will alert when the UPS man comes to deliver a package, but settles down quickly. There are no children in her foster home, but we think she would do well with older, mature children (10 and older).

Debi is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ Note: it works best when our application is filled out on a computer versus a phone or tablet. When it submits correctly, the system will send you a copy. Feel free to email us at DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you need help with the application.

Debi is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready for adoption. Are you ready to give her a forever home?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $300.00 adoption donation required.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
