Isi is a 14-year-old Chihuahua mix, possibly with Terrier heritage, who brings warmth and companionship to those around her. Weighing 18 pounds, she is a laid-back and friendly dog who gets along well with people of all ages. Every morning, she enjoys a long walk, embracing her daily routine with enthusiasm. However, she is not fond of motorcycles or large dogs, though she tolerates her Great Dane sister, Denali, most of the time.
Although Isi is highly intelligent, she refuses to use a doggie door. Instead, she signals when she needs to go outside and rarely has accidents unless she is unwell. In the evenings, she sometimes ventures into the backyard, enjoying the thrill of chasing away critters. While she does not demand attention as much as her three sisters, when she does seek affection, she expresses her love through hugs, kisses, and enjoying back rubs near her tail.
Isi was rescued from the Suffolk Animal Shelter in April 2021. Shortly after, she underwent surgery to remove a tumor from the base of her tail. Unfortunately, another tumor later developed under her tail near her anus, along with a small tumor on her right front leg. Several potential adopters reconsidered when they learned about her medical condition. In April 2022, an oncologist evaluated her and was primarily concerned about the tumor on her leg, predicting a short prognosis without surgical intervention. At that point, her family decided to make Isi a permanent foster, ensuring she would always have a loving home.
Despite her tumors, Isi continues to appear healthy and vibrant. She receives a small dose of Benadryl daily to slow the growth of her tumors, which have remained stable for the past two years. Recently, she developed a tiny cyst on her back, which will be assessed at her upcoming veterinary visit.
Isi is deeply loved by her family, and she continues to enjoy life to the fullest. Her resilience, gentle nature, and affectionate spirit make her an irreplaceable part of her home.
