Introducing JayJay. This guy is laid back, sweet and a little shy. He is looking for a forever home to grow up in.
In late February 2023, Chihuahua Rescue & Transport was contacted about helping with an emergency situation involving Chihuahuas located about two hours outside of Dallas. An elderly woman had passed away alone in her home. She had no family and left behind 15 Chihuahuas living in deplorable conditions in her backyard. CRT rushed into action and saved all 15 Chihuahuas. JayJay was one of these Chihuahuas.
As we began vet work, we discovered that 10 of the 15 Chihuahuas had heartworms. Obviously the owner had not been giving them prevention. So we began the long and costly heartworm protocol on each of these Chihuahuas. JayJay was one of the ones with heartworms. The great news is that he did very well during his treatment and is 100% healthy now and ready for adoption.
JayJay is the sweetest guy. He enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster home. He gets along with all his foster siblings. When they are done playing, he enjoys napping in a soft dog bed. JayJay also LOVES toys. Each day, he collects every toy in the house and brings them to his dog bed. We are not sure he ever had toys in his prior situation, but he is sure making up for that now! Each day we glance over at his bed and smile and he lays among his toys and plays with them.
JayJay was very shy when he first came to CRT. Because of his lack of socialization with his original owner, JayJay came to us with few social skills in regards to humans. He has improved his skills in these few months in foster care and we are so encouraged. His foster Mom works from home and he loves to be in her office as she works. Each day he will ask her for belly rubs, and will wiggle with delight when he receives them. JayJay has the best foster Dad in the world, but he is a little apprehensive of him. We are not sure what happened in his past. He has improved, but JayJay may feel more comfortable in an all female home. One thing JayJay does love about his foster Dad – his socks! LOL. That’s right. JayJay will collect both his Mom and Dad’s socks, take them to his dog bed, and sleep with them!
JayJay is a smart and sweet dog. He is mostly housebroken and will use a doggie door and also pee pads. At night, he sleeps in his dog bed in an open crate. In the morning, he will crawl up on the bed and snuggle with his humans as they begin their day. JayJay is not a big barker. He is uncomfortable with harnesses and leashes so we have not leash trained him yet. So transporting him in a carrier is the only option when going somewhere.
JayJay is about 4 years old. He weighs about 8 pounds and is fully grown. JayJay has a beautiful flowing long coat. He has a white coat with a tan mask. We love his ears, and his deep brown eyes. His eyes will melt your heart. He will need to be groomed on a regular basis.
JayJay has a moderate energy level. The ideal home for JayJay will have at least one other little dog for him to play with. He will need a family who is patient and willing to accept his limitations but at the same time teach him as much as they can. Due to his shy nature, we recommend an all adult home, or a home with older mature teens. JayJay does react to loud noises. He can be a door darter, so we recommend a secure barrier around the front door. This will be a “must have” to keep him safe. Your backyard must have a secure wooden fence (or very reinforced if it is make of wrought iron etc).
We are looking for an experienced small dog family who can see the potential in him, and will love him through the process. This guy will capture your heart.
