Introducing Patch!
Patch is a 7 pound, 7 year old chi mix who has been learning how to trust humans after being rescued from a hoarding situation. When his foster family first started fostering him in February, he was terrified of everyone and everything. Getting him to come out of his shell has been a work in progress but he has made a lot of progress since February! Patch is very affectionate with his foster mom now and has finally reached a milestone as he sat next to his foster father on the couch, accepted pets from him without running away, and even licked his hand! He still seems mostly scared of strangers, though he is definitely a lot less anxious than he used to be.
Patch is a very good eater and it is believed that he experienced food insecurity before being rescued, because he always seems ravenous. He has done well with potty training and generally will do his business outside now, provided he is let out regularly, but is also able to use a pee pad when needed. Patch originally was not a fan of leashes but now seems to enjoy short walks. He had a surgery on his back leg several months ago and was confined for quite some time while that was healing, but he is now up and about and going for walks, and the vet has finally given him the OK to get adopted!
It is a big plus if Patch goes to a home with a fenced yard, as initially due to anxiety he can be quite difficult to catch to put a harness/leash on him! However it is not required. He still runs from foster mom sometimes when trying to put on a harness but isn’t as scared as he used to be. His foster mother’s fence is less than 3 feet high and he has never tried to jump over. He does get very scared of loud noises such as yelling or clapping and will run and hide when this happens.
Due to his anxiety, it is recommended that Patch go to a calm home with 1-2 humans who are willing to be patient with him and understand that it may take a few months for him to really start feeling comfortable with them. Once he trusts you though, he is the perfect little companion. He has slept well in a crate but also enjoys sleeping in bed alongside his foster mother. Patch loves other dogs his size or smaller and it is recommended that he go to a home with at least one other dog to help him feel more comfortable and adjust better to his new surroundings. Patch loves laying in sun spots in the sun room, laying on a blanket on the couch (he’s great at using doggie stairs!), or, when he wants more privacy, hiding in his little “hidey hole” (it’s actually a cat house lol!) Patch has a adorable “lion’s mane” of fur around his face that his dad likes to call his sideburns. Patch is so loving once he feels comfortable with you and is ready to go to his forever home!
He is neutered, UTD on shots and on HW preventative.
His adoption donation is $300.00.
