Introducing adorable Stewie. Stewie has a handsome flowing golden coat. He is a friendly little guy who is ready for his forever home.
Stewie was an owner surrender. Stewie’s original family had two young children under the age of 3. The family felt overwhelmed, and knew they were not providing a good environment for Stewie to grow up in. So they surrendered him to CRT and asked us to find a forever home for Stewie. We love this little guy, and you will too!
Stewie gets along with other small dogs in his foster home. He is young and has a lot of energy. Stewie loves to run and play with his siblings. He enjoys games of “chase” in the backyard. He also loves to cuddle with his siblings. Stewie loves toys of all kinds. He especially loves the tiny, plush toys. Every day Stewie will gather every single toy in the house, stack them in a big stack, then play with them one by one. It is so adorable.
Stewie loves going outside and exploring the yard. Note that Stewie is small and therefore will always need his human nearby while he is out (there are instances where hawks or large birds will swoop down and pick up small dogs under 5 pounds, so you will want to be there to protect Stewie). We also want to emphasize that your fence must be very secure. Stewie is so tiny that he can easily slip under the smallest opening in a fence, so he will need to be in a home with a solid, wooden fenced yard. Stewie loves to run and explore, so his home will need to be secure in all aspects. Stewie can be a door darter, so his forever home will want to have a protective barrier around the front door.
Stewie is very shy when he meets new people. Once he warms up to you and feels safe, you become his BFF! Stewie is very playful and wants to play with his family. He will also slow down for some snuggle time on your lap. He wiggles with delight as you pet him. After a bit, he jumps back down and is ready to play again!
Stewie is about 3 years old. He currently weighs about 4.9 pounds which is a great size for him. Note his professional pictures make him look larger but it is all fur – LOL. Stewie has a gorgeous flowing golden coat with a white chest. And those floppy ears and brown eyes. He melts our heart. Note that he has a small white area on his right eye. Our vet says that is from an old injury and does not affect his vision. We have actually noticed this area getting smaller. We are not sure if it will ever go away, but it does not seem to bother him.
Stewie has done well with potty training. He has learned to use the doggy door (under supervision because of his size) and rarely has an accident in the house. At night, Stewie will sleep in a crate in his foster parent’s bedroom. As long as he can see you, he is happy and content. We have recently begun working with him on walking on a harness and leash. He really enjoys his walks. His new family will want to get an XS harness that fits well to keep him safe. But we think he will want to continue walks!
The ideal home for Stewie would be one with high energy. He would love to have another young dog (maybe 1-4 years) to play with. Applications will not be considered where he would be the only dog. Due to his small size, we do not recommend large dogs as a companion with Stewie. Stewie needs a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). He does react (bark) to loud sounds. We do not think he would do well in an apartment environment. Stewie is growing up with a 10 year old sister and adores her. Younger children startle him with their fast movements. Due to his small size and shyness, we recommend a home with older, mature children (10 and older).
