Introducing adorable Tori. Tori is a sweet puppy who is ready for her forever home.
In early March, CRT received an emergency request from some Good Samaritans to help with five Chihuahua puppies they had found in the woods. The friends were out hiking when the puppies came running out of the brush begging to be saved. These puppies had obviously been dumped and left to die in the woods. There were no houses for miles around. These little dogs were friendly but dirty, thin and hungry. They needed immediate help just to survive. The Good Samaritans scooped up all five puppies, headed back to the DFW area. They reached out to CRT and we immediately agreed to bring them into our program. Tori is one of these puppies. We have just completed all their vet work and are now ready for adoption.
Tori gets along with other small dogs in her foster home. She has a lot of energy and loves to run and play with them. Tori is the instigator – she is the first to encourage the other dogs to play with her! She will also wrestle and tumble with her siblings. Tori enjoys team naps and will cuddle in the dog bed with the entire pile of puppies. Tori enjoys toys – especially the small squeaky ones and the tiny tennis balls.
Tori is a perfect size. She has an adventurous personality with lots of love to share. Tori loves to run and explore, so her home will need to be secure in all aspects. She will need a secure wooden fence in the backyard (she can get through other type of fencing). Tori can be a door darter, so her forever home will want to have a protective barrier around the front door to keep her safe.
Tori is a little shy when she first meets you. But once she feels safe and warms up, she wants to be your buddy. Tori enjoys napping under her Foster Mom’s desk as she is working. She is a polite little girl. She is still a little too shy to crawl up on your lap, but she is getting close! But if you are laying down for an afternoon nap, she sneaks up on the bed and cuddles against you! So we know she loves cuddles! Note that Tori is very active and loves to be right by your feet, so could be a tripping hazard! We are working with her on this habit, but it is very important for her adopting family to know this.
As Tori continues to grow up, she will gain confidence. Tori has an outgoing personality. Her tail is constantly wagging and she is so happy to be around you. She runs to the door to greet you when you come home from shopping. She loves to follow you around the house to see what you are working on. Whatever it is, she wants to be a part of it. Because she is shy and a little cautious, we would love to find a patient, experienced forever family for her.
Our vet estimates that Tori is about 5 months old. She currently weighs about 6 pounds, and our vet thinks she is almost completely grown. Tori has a beautiful reddish coat with white highlights. She has cute floppy ears. Her eyes are beautiful.
Tori has done well with her potty training. She will potty on washable, indoor potty pads with only the occasional accident that can be easily managed. For her health and safety, we have waited to take her outside in the yard until her vaccinations were completed. We have now completed them, and have begun the outside part of the training. At night, Tori sleeps in a doggie bed inside an ex-pen with her siblings. We have waited to train her on a harness and leash because of her vacinnation status, so this is just starting.
The ideal home for Tori would be one with high energy. She would love to have another young dog (maybe 1-3 years) to play with. Applications will not be considered where she would be the only dog. Due to her small size, we do not recommend large dogs as a companion with Tori. Tori needs a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). She is fairly quiet, but she also has high energy. Loud noises do startle her and she will scamper off to safely (this is likely a response to having to live in the woods and fighting for survival). There are no children in her foster home, but is a friendly little girl. Due to her tiny size, we recommend a home with older, mature children (10 and older).
We have been asked “where did the five puppies get their names?” Right about the time these sweet puppies were found, our DFW coordinator’s hometown Lincon, IL Lady Railers completed an undefeated season and won the Illinois 3A state girl’s basketball championship. They played so many larger schools, but remained focused and won every game. These five puppies are survivors and winners. So in honor of the Lincoln, IL Lady Railers starting five – the state champions – we present to you five more champions: Becca, Jenna, Taryn, Tori and Froebe. Interesting note – the human Tori played center and was the “enforcer” against girls much larger than her. She could mix it up (never in a mean way – she would hold her own, box out, and out rebound all her opponents!). And, oh my, Tori the puppy is not afraid to play the games either! Amazing how their personalities are alike!
Tori is being fostered in the DFW (Texas) area. If this sweet girl sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/
Tori is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, HW negative. and on heartworm prevention. She is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours?
